The current PureContact ECO+ have 52K miles and 5/32, I could probably run them again for the summer, but with rebates coming up soon, I'm starting to think about replacing them when it's time to take the winter tires off. I have two sets of rims, so I can jump on a sale, closeout or rebate at any time.
I was seriously thinking of just doing the same tire again, but availability has dropped to nothing. (Kicking myself, I probably could have grabbed a closeout last month.) They appear to have been discontinued in favor of the new PureContact LS. Since Conti advertise the LS as 50% quieter, and the PureContact Eco+ is already a rather quiet tire, I was ready to jump all over the LS... but it does not appear to be available in this size. I guess Corolla size wheels do not rank a really fabulous tire.
Local tire guy recommended the BFG Advantage T/A Sport, but the other thread pinned them as noisy, which is really what I want to avoid. I also noticed it weighs more than the competition, and has less tread depth, and only 400 treadwear, all marks against it. I don't need a 70K tire per se, but this vehicle gets a lot of mileage fast and I don't want to be replacing tires in less than 2 years/40K miles.
Corolla 195/65-15, Car is used for long distance commuting, which is why quiet, rain, and comfort are big factors, so I'm looking in the "Grand Touring" category.
So my priorities, in order of importance:
Rain traction
Braking
Quiet
Comfortable ride
Reasonable handling (I don't need "sporty", just not squishy)
Something better than 400 treadwear of the BFG Adv T/A Sport
I have a feeling the answer is going to be "RT43", there are 2 to choose from, T and H/V speed rated. What besides the speed rating and price differentiates the two? The price difference is trivial for this size. I am concerned about reports of the RT43 tramlining, which is an issue with all the roadwork this vehicle is driven through. Also, I just want some informed opinions on other options.
