Also in California are these Euro Spec 5/40's

available over the counter

Union 76 5/40
Kendall 5/40
Pennzoil 5/40
Q-State 5/40
Valvoline 5/40

If you want to order some world class stuff for bragging rights like you have posted Lubromoly 5/40 and Pentosyn are available out there or online at autobahnfluids or something like that for less than 28 bux for 5 litres .

Redline 10/30 would also be a good one .

Before you stock up on anything you might want to get that oil consumtion stabilized through seating the rings if thats whats wrong .

Just a thought .

I have over 6,000 miles on the engine. Wouldn't the rings be seated by now? If not, whats the correct procedure to do so? I've narrowed my selection down to..................

Delvac 1 5w-40
Amsoil HP 10w-40
Redline 10w-40 or 5w-40
Mobil 1 0w-40

.....or run the GC again for one more interval and see how it does. I'm not going to extended drains. I've always performed 3K drains, but the most I would even think about going is 5K....and I probably won't do that. All oils would be paired with K&N oil filter.

I'd run the Amsoil 10w-40 MC oil year round in this application, or I'd run their S2000, 20w-50 for temps > 50F and run the S2000, 0w-30 rest of the year.

The Amsoil MC oil works in motorcycles with 12,000+ rpm redlines, sustained 250F oil temps, and > 2 Hp/cubic inch - I think it will do fine in a wimpy V-8 car engine

With all things considered, and the fact that I'm not going to run extended drain intervals, the Mobil 1 0w-40 is looking better and better. I can buy it whenever I want to at Autozone, and the price is not ridiculous. It sounded kind of cool to go with Redline or Amsoil, but not practical for me at the time. Plus, I'm already getting addicted to BITOG, and I dont need that when I'm taking 18 units of college courses.

The Mobil 1, 15w-50 is a much better choice for your engine. It has 50% higher levels of ZDDP to minimize valvetrain wear ....I'd use either that or Delvac 1 if I owned this vehicle and wanted to run a Mobil product.

Thanks for the warning. I've called a few truck places and still have not found a place that carries Delvac 1. Who carries it? Also, would a mix of 10w-30 and 15w-50 Mobil 1 be a good option (I'm still a weeny and too scared to put straight 50 wt oil in the engine) I'm thinking 3 qts. 10w-30 and 3 qts 15w-50??????????????

I'd start with 4 of the 10w-30 and 2 of the 15w-50, which will thicken the mixture quite a bit ....If you can find the 10w-40, Mobil 1 motorcycle oil, that would be excellent also. The 10w-40/20w-50, MC oils have excellent high temp properties. The flash point on the 10w-40 is something like 487F ....

Sorry, stupid question. The M1 motorcycle oil is pretty darn expensive so thats not really an option. I'll call some more places to search for the Delvac 1. Every dealer listed on the Mobil site has no clue what I'm talking about. (truck stops) Just some lady that knows what the regular Delvac is. My times almost up with the GC, and since I've been on the site more and more I'm actually stressing on what oil to use next for my 383 stroker. I put alot of money into the engine and I'm still in college, so I want to treat it right. I'm in So Cal and temps are 85F-100F constantly in the summer (if that makes any difference in recommendations)

Use the 100% AMO 10W-40 year-round: if you feel you must

change the filter each 5K miles, top off as needed, & an OCI of 10K ought to make this a reasonable expendature vis'-a-vis' the additional CO$T vs. long-term lubrication protection...

Certainly 10K won't strain THIS oil...

p.s. I use it in my ZX-11
