I don't know too much about these oils from Castrol. I tried searching the forums up and down but couldn't find any info. regarding these oils.

I was wondering what your opinions of these oils are?

There is some discussion here on both oils along with some analysis.

Am currently running Edge in 2 vehicles one of which sees about 1k miles a week on the interstate, the other about 100 miles a week mostly city driving.

First notice is mileage has increased a bit from the former use of Amsoil XL and PP,, all 5W-30 weights in both vehicles. Since edge is a bit thinner would IMO be part of the cause.

Haven't, other than the mileage difference, enough data to say anything other than it's likely a fine brew.

Castrol Edge is an extended drain interval oil (guaranteed 15,000 miles for one year), like Mobil 1 EP, which claims much less wear than Mobil 1. A lot of people dislike Castrol for their advertising ("think with your dipstick") and their "legal case" which allowed synthetic oil "not to be all synthetic".

After having more wear (lead) show up in my Mobil 1 Corvette UOAs for the last 3 years, I have tried Castrol Edge in my 120,000 mile 1998 Corvette. It will be about a year before my test will be concluded. Here is my post concerning this, it has more details: http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubb...012#Post1476012

Edge started out expensive ($8 a quart) but has reduced in price (Walmart sells for about $28 for 5 quarts) lately.

Both are good synthetic oils, maybe on the pricey side.

Thanks for the honest reply.

Have you tried PP? I'm considering this as well.

I have not tried PP, but according to many it is a great oil at a reasonable price.

I buy my oil mostly at SAMS CLUB and/or COSTCO, often using coupons, so Mobil 1 is cheap at these places/times. Walmart also carries 5 quart Mobil 1 containers at $26.
