Wondering if some of you guys could chime in here and give me a second opinion on a oil filter for the Suki in profile. We bought the car new, and keep it very well maintained. Book calls for 5-7,500 OCI IIRC, using 5w30. It has 23k, and we plan on keeping it til about 70-100k at least. It's driven in city/hwy mix here in Tampa. These are my options for filters & price:

-Napa gold/wix $6.69. I know it's the best filter.
-Pro select napa $2.69. Never used one, not sure.
-PureOne $5.88. Good filter, but has it's cheapy-ness issues.
-Purolator $3.44. Avg filter. has good/bad issues.
-Advance Auto house filter $2.88. Made by purolator.

I like to go as far as possible on OCI's; 7,500 even though it does a good amount of city driving. (oil stays looking good). I buy whatever 5w30 Dino is on sale, Valvoline, penz, shell Napa etc. I really want to use the napa gold, but how do the others campare bang/buck. I hate how Purolators use a Leaf spring and are thin; I had one leak on a corrolla, I couldn't beleive it. So what's next in line after napa gold? I almost feel that the napa gold is overkill/expensive for this little car.

Supposedly the ProSelect filters are good, but with you wanting to do a long OCI, I'd vote for the Napa Gold, or if you can find some, the Bosch Premium filter. The Bosch is similar to a napa gold, and at least in CA, they are just under $6 ea, but they are on sale for another week if you have a Kragen, Shucks or Murrays. (Coupon forum) Also, I would keep your OCI's to 6mo/5K miles if you are just going to run Dino...

never had a bad experience with a purolator filter, but wow 3.44.

here they are 2.95 at fleet farm, and the motorcrafts can be had for 3.38 or so at walmart

but if you wanna go the wix route, i believe they are cheaper if you but them through fleetfilter.com

Spend a little more and go with a Mobil 1 filter. The Purolator Pure One is a good filter.

ProSelect filters are excellent filters, as are Purolator filters. Had great results with both so far. I'm using Purolator filters on 4/5 cars I maintain right now, along with a ProSelect on the other. No complaints here! They should last 7,500 miles, provided it doesn't take a year to put on that amount of mileage. The main thing to worry about is the nitrile ADBV starting to fatigue over time. I've never personally experienced it, but it is a possibility.

You stated the length of your drains, but not your annual mileage.

Although this is a 3/4-16 thread, I'm unsure if a MC would work for you as the gasket won't (typically) be that small (2.4 vs. 2.7-2.8 O.D.) so that may eliminate that from the selection. Depends on how liberal your mounting surface is.

The cheaper filters used for one OCI will offer comparable filtration performance and will all have equivalent component composition (in most cases). If you were doing 6 month OCI's and were doing near or below 10k OCI's, they're a sensible choice if you don't require silicon ADBV to control start up noise (if it annoys you).

If you're closer to 15k/year, then the more expensive, finer filtering offerings would make more sense for every other OCI.

No selection will stop you from reaching your goal of 100k ..or 200k. It's merely a cost:benefit view on which you use.

ProSelects on no longer than 3000 to 3500 mile oci. In your case I would recommend the Napa Gold. You can save money if you buy them in quantity from FleetFilter.com. Wix is one of the very best filters you can buy, and even though it may seem so, IMHO it's not really overkill to use one on your car.

I go 5k on ProSelects and Purolators... no problems at all.

They'll last that long no problem, even a SuperTech will.

If that is a quick 7,500 miles (6 months or less), a Napa ProSelect would be fine.

If it is a slow 7,500 miles, then I'd opt for the Napa Gold.

Car gets driven every day, and quite a bit of miles per year. 15-20K /yr.

Filter is mounted with the threads UP/can down, in a tight place. So going with a MC, or different # is not an option. but the ADBV isn't really even needed b/c of mount postion. I'll probly do a Napa Gold w/napa 5-30 or whatever is brand and cheaper.
