Hi all,

what's the board's opinion of Canton/Mecca filters? I have one to fit a VW engine, was going to put it on a friend's Corrado (I no longer have a VW) if it would be worthwhile. Also considering getting one for my daily driver 944 if there's a real benefit. They claim to filter smaller particles but I have never seen flow numbers, don't know if I'd be hurting anything.

FWIW I usually use NAPA gold or Hastings filters on my American cars and Mann or Mahle for the German ones, although I have a Purolator on the 944 at the moment as I haven't had to place a parts order in a while, had to resort to FLAPS.

I have been using a Canton filter on my F-150, watching the oil pressure, and no ill effects so far. I like the 8 micron filtering and the 10,000 mile intervals for the element changes.

Way too expensive for street driving. Why not just use a Purolator Pure One filter (top rated), save more than a few bucks, and get more than enough filtering and flow in the process?

because I'm anal retentive, that's why

Also I hate changing the stock filter, it's upside down, with the C/M I could change it without removing the canister from the filter mount, thereby not soaking my belts and hoses every oil change.

I'd say, go for it. They not only filter very well, but they flow extremely well. That's why they're popular with the racing crowd.
