so after a 3k cleanout with mobil1 5w-40 diesel motor oil and a quart of mmo. i was amazed to find my filter (acdelco) pf52 was not only completely clean of debris but my oil was still perfectly clean light colored like when i poured it in for the first time. is this a good sign or bad sign. yes i know thats way to soon 3k to change it but i got a great deal on oil and wanted to run some short intervals to clean up. so im wondering if its that clean would it be good like maybe i did a good job over the years with quality oils and filters so there isnt anything bad to filter out or does it mean the oil and filter suck and arent doing their job?

i wish it was a honda its a 3400 gm. I hope that means its clean I went from oil to oil attempthing to get it clean stuck to detergent oils like pp, pu, rotella, mobil1, then i finally decided to see if the money and work paid off then i got nervous when i saw how clean it was i was like [censored] this clean cant be normal

I've got a 3400 in a 2003 Impala with about 70K and the oil comes out really clean no matter what I put in it. Up to about 60K it hardly got brown. If the manifold gaskets are holding these engines run clean. I think they have a very good fuel management system. Mine fires up almost instantly in any temp., any weather. Just touch the key and boom!

yeah mine to and the manifold gaskets are new this is the cars third set luckily i didnt have to pay for it i hope they hold up for a while. i wish i could see inside the motor to see if its clean.

Aren't the intake manifold gaskets supposed to be a "1 time fix" as long as you use some updated gasket? Three times doesn't sound right to me.

Can you easily drop the oil pan on that motor? I don't know - never seen one - but you can probably get a good idea from under the valve covers or in the crankcase above the oil pan.

Sounds like it just runs clean or the rings have a very good seal or the PCV and EGR systems are *amazing*. I would give it a few doses of WOT in low gear (safely!) followed by coasting in low gear (high vacuum) to help blast off the rings and burn off residual carbon deposits in the combustion chambers if it runs that clean. Maybe a treatment with GM Top Engine Cleaner (p/n 12345104) would be warranted at some point, and think about cleaning up the throttle plate and bore, but for now it sounds like it's in great shape.

i have new pcv valve and new egr valve maybe that helps? top engine cleaner is that a piston soak?

I bought it with 40k one previous owner wanted to make sure it was running clean as possible incase there was neglect plus im kinda ocd.

If you saw no traces of debris in the filter, and the oil is clean like new, this indicates that your engine internals are very clean.
MMO would have scoured internal area like rings/lands.
You should have seen something after 3k - I am surprised.
You engine must be in great shape internally..

+1 You can't clean something that is already clean.

Unless neglected GM v6s run clean, good little v6s mine are the same way 2-3,000 before the oil starts getting darker.

really thats good to know im gunna post pics of the next one ill cut it at 5k and see what you all think.

A friend was over last weekend and we changed oil. 15,500 miles on M1 5-30EP. The oil drain pan drained out very clean, no grit. We also cut the M1 filter opened and it was very clean with no grit.

Love to see that UOA,tig you gota start posting pics of these long drains man.

Too bad the 3100/3400 had their issues(IMG/HG) because their really nice engines. Lot of torque where you need it, nice throttle responce, relatively smooth for a pushrod engine and very decent MPG. Though not high reving like some OHC V-6's, they can rev just the same and sound good doing it.

I haven't figured out how to post pics yet. As for UOAs I have had two done myself for 10K OCIs and they came back fine.

I work on a fleet of 3.4's at work, they are always running them hard and going past the OCI, they stay pretty clean! definitely no sludge! This is on Formula Shell 10w-30
