I found an opened gallon jug of Mobil One in my basement that has about 1.5 quarts remaining. It's old oil as it's rated SH-SJ/CF and is labeled "Tri-Synthetic" Formula. It has a code on the jug of DEWB201H1B2250.
Do you think it's still safe to use this in my snow blower that calls for 5W30 ? Or is it too old to be used ?
I searched but didn't find much info on opened bottles.

Boy an SJ/CF, I would only use it if your basement has some climate control unit in it. It is probably OK but why take a chance when you get a fresh qt of whatever you want?? A new snow blower must be expensive...I have no Idea cuz I live in FL...Hehe. Good luck man!

Yeah, the basement is climate controlled. If it was just Dino I would have recycled it with no questions asked ! But since it's synthetic I thought it may still be good ?

Fresh? Its not food its oil - and hydorphobic! Just be sure its new and not "spent". BTW my tecumseh SK leaked/weeped on "real" synthetic. Shake the bottle well to get any settled additives off the bottom - but allow the entrained air bubbles to dissipate B4 it goes in the motor.

In a temp stable environment, virgin oil oxidizes very slowly. Look in the UOA section for a UOA of some '80s era oil a guy used in his car. It was perfectly fine. I wouldn't be afraid to use it as you describe, but I wouldn't want to mix that old formulation with anything new... just to avoid the unlikely possibility of an additive clash. I vote: USE IT!

I used Mobil 1 API SE oil in my mower. The containers are not vacuum packed so there is air in them from the bottling process anyway. As long as the lid was screwed on tight shake it and use it!
