2011 Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi: calls for 5w-20
2020 Ford Mustang 5.0 Coyote: calls for 5w-20
2023 Ford F350 7.3 Godzilla: calls for 5w-30

I would like to consolidate to one engine oil for all three vehicles. My studying here leads me to believe that a 5w-30 engine oil would be safe in all three.
I am not dead set on 5w-30.
I have always used Amsoil SS in the past and it has never let me down.
I am very interested in the HPL PPPCMO line as well.
I tend to run 3-4000 mile OCI or once a year whichever comes first.
I have no problem with changing a premium oil before it is at the end of its life.

Thoughts? Feel free to bust me down for not using the search feature and lecture me that this has been discussed hundreds of times before.

Thanks!

Serious question: Not living in a cold climate, what advantage does a 0w-xx have over a 5w-xx?
None; he didn’t recommend M1 0w40 because of cold climate, but because of the numerous manufacturer approvals and certification that it actually carries. It’s an oil that can pretty much be used in any gasoline engine in any conditions, without concern.

Really I was suggesting m1 0w40 because of your hot climate. M1 0w40 is more like a thick Xw30 wt. It meets a bunch of very stringent specs and is a reasonable price, available at walmart. You will find most publish HTHS specs are higher with 5w40 than 0w40.......to answer your question. But any 5w30 would be suitable either way. I like 1 grade thicker than specified by the book.

Good luck.

Thank you for the explanation.

seeing you have good luck with Amsoil ss, just use this oil in 5w-30 in all of your vehicles, look for the preferred customer pricing.
Solid advice. Between these and my motorcycle, I have always bought my way into a free membership. Good to hear other's opinions as well, of course.
