I might buy a used 2014 F150 SCREW FX4 w/ 5.0.

It's build date was 11/14 and purchased 1/15. Original owner has put about 36k miles on it. He has gotten routine Mobil 1 5w-20 oil changes since new.

Ford specs 5w-20 syn-blend for it. The problem is, I have no 5w-20 in the stash.

The stash has the following:

NAPA 0w-20 syn
Val Maxlife 5w-30 blend Green Bottle
Castrol Edge Gold Bottle 0w-20, 5w-30 and 10w-30 syn
Mobi1 1 0w-30 and EP 0w-20 syn
Pennz Ultra 5w30 and Plat 5w-30

Has anyone used any of these oils and weights in their 5.0 Coyote's?

recommendations?

Thanks

In south TX? Even the 10-30 is fine!

Run the 10-30 in the summer, 5-30's in the spring and fall, and the 0-XX in the umm, "winter", LOL.

+1

It better tolerates thrashings by a teenage.. ..........

Last winter I used QSUD 0w20 in my '11 with no issues (and no UOA). No additional noise noted, though. Of course, last winter was COLD and its primarily a commuter vehicle.

F150 in signature; to use up the last of m 20 weight I'm currently using a 50/50 mix of 0w20 and 0w30. It will be all 0w or 5w30 from now on, and I may even try 0w40.

No noticed loss of mpg or performance. (and no, BITOG pundits, I didn't run it on a dyno)

Thanks for input so far .

I won't know til Jan if I can buy the truck from my friend. If he gets a 2016 F150 I prob will be able to get the 2015 for what the dealer offers for trade in (lowball b/c of miles).

I wasn't sure if the new 5.0's were particular on oil weight. I know Dodge/Ram recommends to stay with their spec for proper MDS operation.

The 0w-20 weights in stash are for wife's Honda Pilot, but I have enough to tap into for the 5.0 if needed.

I still have oil from last year's AZ clearances, and have re-up'd this year, but haven't found 0w-20 or 5w-20's for $2/at yet like I found last year.

Great truck and I love my 5.0 Coyote in it!

I'm using PP 5W20 and a MC FL500-S filter.
IMO stick to the Ford spec and time to start a new stash with 5W20.

PS that's why I don't have an oil stash.....keep it fresh, keep it current. Shop the sales , buy enough for the next OCI or maybe the next two, but that is it. Oil is always on sale, so why bother.

You can probably use any of those that you have in your stash as the Mustang 5.0 that year in the track pack applications used a 5W-50. I don't know if there are any internal differences between the Mustang 5.0 and the truck but they can't be much if any.

With that being said, I would use the 5W-20 while still under warranty and then use what you want.

I use 5W-20 in my 14 Mustang GT with no issues.

Both have been running on their respective oils since 100K ...
