i have a '46 willys that has a 50s model 3b f-head engine.. i have no idea ho wmany miles are on it but all i do know is that MMO has worked wonders for me... on this project 2a of mine...

the jeep had water in the oil when i bought it and got it running with using MMO and about 4 or five oil changes with nondetergent oil...

as for my question .. or to get to the question .. last november.. i pulled the oil pan off and cleaned the darn thig with diesel and cleaner of some sort.. not really sure.. and also cleaned the grud off the oil pick-up... Since i cleaned the oil pan off really well and put it back on and changed the oil to DELO straight 30 weight... my oil pressure cold is close to 50psi..and with this older engine and ITS suppose to it drops to below 10psi.. YEAH yeah i know that is low but if u have done the research and asked fellow willys owners like i have this is normal....

NOW for the question ... i have had the SAE 30 DELO in it for 7mths and the last time i was over where the willys is the oil dipstick still showed sign of some water getting into it.. white spots in the oil... hence possibly now being a cracked head.. which i think its just condensation buildup...

BUT here's finally the question .. i am thinking of adding a bottle of the MMO and driving it all day around that farm and such ..then an oil change... and seeing if the MMO will do anything ... in helping with this lil problem since i dont have the money now to do a engine rebuild..??? so really this was just asking for an opinion more less than a ? i guess....

What does that thing have for a crankcase breather? Maybe you could retrofit a PCV system to suck condensation out of the oil, if indeed it is condensation. If you run antifreeze it'll show up in a used oil analysis and be discernable from ordinary water.

Does it have a thermostat,is it working? If the engine never "warms up" it would collect water from combustion blow by in the oil. Nice to hear those old ones run isn't it. In my opinion MMO used properly has no equal. Good luck. Rickey.

That's probably just from too many no warm up events. If the oil still looks like oil and the white/brown crap is seperate (the oil add opening ..the inside of the dip stick tube, etc.) then you just need to either live with it ..or plan your runs with it better (longer). Now if you want to throw on a block warmer ..that might help. Now if, over time, all your oil gets emulsified ..then you've got a serious coolant leak (one that you should note with coolant loss).

You could also probably use a 20w-20/5w-20 since this engine obviously isn't getting up to temp.

Checking the thermostat was good advice.

Good luck.

Those things didn't have a PCV system, only a road draft tube. You need to drive it above 25 mph to keep the crankcase air flowing to help pull out the water vapor. I don't mean just a trip around the block. Take it out and use it.

well..well well thanks for the suggestions..

it does have a t-stat and i have gotten it up to 190degs easily.. and the t-stat i think is a 160deg... but i havent changed it yet to know exactly,,, but soon enoungh when i get it over here to actaully work on it again .. i will put a a new one on... and flush the coolant anyways.....

as for knowing for sure if its the antifreeze getting in.. i will have to get an oil analysis done...

where the heck do u get one done anyways???

JUST A FYI for all of ya'll as well.. this engine does drink a lot of oil and does need a engine rebuild ....its the F-head engine ...not the 'go-devil' engine that was orignally in this jeep... it not my doing and plus the engine has 75hp not 70hp like the L-head... whoopie-do this thing is a tractor practically in first gear and low range....

also on the thought of when i drive it... i go all out and take this thing a good 5 miles or so when i am over at my grandmothers... so it does get used and also it gets up to about 165deg driving it around...

it doesnt have a breather on the valve cover but use to since i changed that..and cut it off and welded a piece of tin/metal of somesort over the hole due to clearance issues... with a 2a hood...

any other advice would be ideas will be gladly appreciated...

here's 2 or 3 pics to show engine pic
