Have a Honda EU1000i that I bought used that's an absolute basketcase. New oil, clean gas, ran regularly, new plug, clean air filter, ect...
Put MMO in fuel and wanted to clean up engine insides before oil change. Engine only holds like 12oz or some sm amount. Anyone have any ideas? A splash? 1 oz?

I've personally never seen sludge or varnish in a small engine that ran detergent oil. Just water and rust. It's probably much cleaner than you think.

It's far safer to run a quality oil known to clean internals than to run any solvents in the oil. The GX50 engine in the eu1000i is known to coke up the piston rings with carbon if idled too much or ran long term under light loads. A piston soak with B12 chemtool works well clearing out the carbon attached to the piston. Best to dry out the combustion chamber, drain the oil contaminated with solvent, it takes 8 fl. oz. fresh oil. You'll be good for a few hundred more hours of hard use after that.

If varnish was a concern in my OPE I would just run the Valvoline R&P oil in it. Way better than diluting the oil film protection with additives.

Too small to risk additives. Run a good synthetic oil and work it. If it really needs cleaning, I’d do it in controlled circumstances, eco off, high rpm, low-medium load, a tank or two of fuel, then change it out. I would not run it highly loaded with additives when you Need it.
