'Old' oil in engine over 5 month winter storage. Start engine before change or no?

While I'm pretty careful with fluid changes, I change the oil in my 986 every 2 or 3 years. Only drive it maybe 1000 miles per year and it has nearly 10 quarts of M1 0w-40 so I'm not too concerned with changing it. But after reading here and wings&wheels suggestion, maybe I'll change it this spring when I bring it out instead of waiting until the fall like I was planning.

I would run it up to operating temps, then dump the oil afterwards. Just running it over the summer should be fine also. Probably doesn't matter. Change it before storage this fall.

Bottom line, enjoy the car. I would love to have one of those!

It's gonna be a somewhat dry start anyway. Crank it, ( don't start it), until the oil light goes out or the gauge builds up some pressure. Then start the engine. Take it on the highway for a good run to get the moisture out of it. THEN, dump the oil & filter when it's warm.
