Doctor was bugging me to get it done due to my diabetes. I am also into my 60's so finally got it done. I wear readers and my distance sight is a little hazy and fuzzy.

The exam showed I could use glasses but I am not going to get them now. I have cataracts starting but she said maybe 3-5 years before they are real bad. Mentioned macular degeneration. Wanted to sell me some expensive eye vitamins.

I found similar ingredient vitamins on Amazon for cheaper. Decided to get Blu Blocker sunglasses and some blue light blocking readers.

Oh the woes of growing old!.....Did you say something dear?

Fun times. Am noticing that I can’t do anything without a flashlight now.

That said, no sympathy here, been wearing glasses for over 30 years now… ;)

At 37 now 40 I have hearing aids. Still irritated at my bosses and covid. Had both been on the same page I'd still be there. Vision and hearing loss sneaks up on you.

Here are the vitamins I currently take. This is a two month supply. Note that it follows the AREDS2 formula.

They were pushing a product called Eye Promise

Yeah I'm 64. Was told I also have the beginnings of cataracts. So far so good. My vision is fine.

I don't play the save money guessing game when it comes to my eyes. My diabetic mother kept putting off going to the eye Dr. thinking she was being frugal. She waited too long, and her sight slowly deteriorated until she became bling.

As long as the doctor (make sure its an MD / DO (ophthalmologist) not an optometrist as one goes to med school and another doesn't) was recommending AREDS2, that's the way to go. Will it make a difference for you, who knows, but like changing your oil early, taking these supplements won't hurt. The Preservision brand of AREDS2 is sold at Walmart but there is a generic right next to it with suspiciously the exact ingredients IIRC for much cheaper.

See a retina specialist not just any eye doctor. Macular degeneration is progressive and leads to irreversible vision loss. There are two types, wet, and dry. In the wet type, abnormal blood vessel growth in the retinas can be treated with the regular injection of growth factor inhibitors. The FDA has just very recently approved the first drug for the treatment of dry macular degeneration. Until now there was no treatment. The macula is the ca 1/4" diameter central area of the retina that's critical for good vision and for the sharpest vision in the fovea, which is the tiny central area within the macula. With macular degeneration, you have to be proactive. Diabetics are supposed to get annual exams because of the deleterious effects diabetes has on the retina and the crystalline lens. You really have to be proactive. Best of luck to you!

I read about the Areds2. Mine has the same two main ingredients but not the other vitamins. I already take a multivitamin with higher amounts of vitamins in it.

This is the one I decided to try.

You meant optometrist?

"In clinical trials, the AREDS and AREDS2 formulas benefited people with intermediate or late AMD. There was no benefit for people with early AMD or for people who do not have AMD."
