I enjoy my CX5, but my experience with the Camry TRD shows the Camry to be ever so slightly fleeter from a highway punch. Not much, but enough to agree that it is a touch quicker on the clock.
I knock Kia for naming GT and GT-LINE, K-5 instead of Optima. At least they didn't name it 'turd'. I'm sure the CX5 is a great SUV but doesn't the TRD have a pretty potent V6?

Yeah, it's slightly faster in my personal experience, as well as in magazine testing. Magazine tests show it does 0-60 in 5.6 compared to the 5.8-6.1 of the CX5, and 1/4 mile in 14.2@101 vs 14.4-5@95-97 for the CX5. My personal experience with one is that these numbers are accurate, as it is ever so slightly faster.

The Camry TRD actually looks pretty slick in person, IMO

Had no idea a CX-5 was that fast.

My dad got hit by some guy who had Geico and they made him drive around the Geico car for two days he was so angry. They told him that is their rental cars I think it was a Nissan of some type at the time.

Isn't it bad enough that their company is called Kia? When you die in one, they all will say what did you expect.

They don’t feel fast - just like every other modern appliance. We passed on it.

No compact or mid size sedan should ever be included in the same sentence as “fun.” You need a 2 door convertible for that. Sure a bmw might be “the ultimate driving machine” but it’s still a compromised sedan designed to make the driver feel somewhat less depressed.

So you're saying the 2021 AMG E-63 S is going to be no fun?

I’m saying that a convertible Miata will be more fun on the street (and track, if we are honest).
You’ll never touch the full potential Of the Mercedes on the street, it’s not a race car. It’s a gussied up appliance.

Again, if it doesn’t start and end with “two door convertible” it’s irrelevant as a “fun” vehicle. It simply becomes “I spent more money on my compromise.”

They really drop like a rock. Look at a 2010 S-65, about 35k and listed for over 200k so about 83% depreciation after 10 years. Still a nice car and a V-12 with 604hp. Still some electric cars are faster. But I'd much rather drive an S-class than any electric car.
Smart buy for somebody looking at a 70k+ new luxury vehicle is to just get a gently used G-Wagon. Every eastern european truck shop owner has one, and they’re not (usually) dumb with their money.

They ride like crap and have horrible driving dynamics compared to any other 4x4 but who cares. First owner takes a massive hit but they just stop depreciating after about 5 years. 20 year G500s with a ton of miles are still in the 30s.

I guess it depends upon what you want out of a car.

Yes, A Miata is fun sporting around town, and perhaps on a curvy canyon road. But what I want out of a car any longer is a grand touring car, or one that at least has a lot of the same characteristics. That Miata is not very enjoyable 200, 500 miles down the road. But the S class sure will be. And way beyond. And the AMG version will give you a lot of fun also. Some bozo tries to squeeze you out of changing lanes with the S63, and you have plenty of get up and go, even at 70, that almost no one is going to close the gap faster than you can accelerate to get in it.

I've done 900 miles in a single day with my E350, and have physically felt better afterwards, than after doing 300 miles in other cars.

Sorry, different strokes for different folks. Drove one once, hated it. Too low to the ground and gutless. Never been to the track so buying a road car for the track is irrelevant.

Yeah the G-wagon is one of the few Mercedes that hold its value over the long term. A fun car might be an old S class with a V-12 or maybe an old E63, they'd probably both be in the 10k range and they'd have 500-600hp.
