We are replacing the exhaust fan from our kitchen. My Dad and I like to make things out of little motors. For example, at our old house, the old furnace came out and in went a new A/C and furnace couple years ago. We kept the old motor and made a grinder/buffing wheel out of it and it works quite well.

This little motor from the exhaust fan is a Nutone which seemed to be a popular appliance name back in the day and I've seen some other appliances named from them such as intercoms etc... the motor itself runs fine. I plugged it in and tested and gets up to speed nicely and runs smooth. I will read off the specs. Forgive me if something doesn't sound right as the labeling has aged so I will do my best to read. It is 51 watts, 115 volts, spins at about 2800 or 2850? RPM and draws about 72 amps.

I call it, the little motor that could

From the specs it sounds like it can handle some torque load but not much so our options our limited. Here is a pic of it.

As you see, it has 3 mounting brackets. So if we need to mount it in some akward place, we can do so. Enjoy,,,AR

Suppose it depends on what your needs are, but if it were in my garage...

I would put it together with some duct work to make an exhaust to vent my welding table.

Maybe you could put it in your attic so you can suck all the hot air up and out your house through the roof vent at dusk in the summer. Wire it so you have a switch down on the first floor.

I'm on the lookout for such a motor. I need one for a knife sharpener I plan on making with a fine grinding stone. I already have a fine honing setup, but I need a way to hog off material as the edge wears away before honing.
