OK to remove one lug w/wheel on car?

I managed to slip the socket off and ding up one of my wheels in the lug well. I want to touch it up.

Is it permissible to remove one lug while leaving the others still on then torque it back down? Or is that considered to be a no-no and if one comes off they must all come off?

It's okay to remove 1 lug while others are on, as long as you don't drive the car for any extend distance.

Depends how many lug nuts you have.

On an R16, I wouldn't advise it, nor on a lot of racecars and old Jags/MGs.

Anything other than those strange things is fine.

The number of cars I see around with one stud sheared off is amazing.

No issues have at it...

my BL had an old ford Escort well they only have 4 lug nuts and he snapped two off and yep you guessed it he kep driving it.
