OK to mix Dexron VI brands?

Stupid question of the day - I’m going to do a pan dump and filter change on my 2016 Chevy Silverado. Is it OK to use a different brand ATF provided it’s Dexron VI seeing I’ll only be replacing about 6 qts so there will be about 6qts still in from the factory. Or, is it safer to refill with AC Delco fluid?

Mix away! My favourite was Valvoline MaxLife, now Valvoline Restore and Protect ATF (haven't actually used that one yet). I used many Dex6 fluids off the shelf and no issues.

Most important is to clean the pan and magnets, the fluids are all very similar but I feel it's worth paying for quality fluids.

Weld a drain plug into pan while its off. After that makes it easy to do a quick drain every other oil change or so.5 1/2 to 6 qts will drain if you let it sit awhile. Have often refilled with different brands of Dex 6 with no problems. On my 2017 rwd Silverado I had to drop the Y pipe to remove the pan.

Be careful, AC Delco has gotten cheap with their fluids.

Latest version of Dexron VI is semi synthetic, but says “Synthetic “ on the label.

Old version, blue or gold writing on a white label, is full synthetic, and says “Full Synthetic “ on the label.

I do it all the time.

Your favourite is a brand you haven't even tried yet?

Yep! From the results I've experienced with Valvoline MaxLife ATF and Valvoline Restore and Protect engine oil I would buy Valvoline Restore and Protect ATF in a heartbeat if it was available (at a reasonable price). Valvoline delivers and that's what I'm after.

You realize how ridiculous that sounds? How can you like something you have never tried?

No I don't actually. I've had decades of experience with Valvoline MaxLife ATF and just started using Valvoline Restore and Protect engine oil. There's no reason for me to believe that Valvoline won't deliver on their claims with Valvoline Restore and Protect ATF, their consistency is admirable and the results speak volumes. I can only hope these products remain consistent, available and affordable.

Cool. Thanks so much for your testimonial based on absolutely nothing!
