I had to do a short drain and fill of my transmission. When I finished, I was about one quart low so I needed to buy an extra quart. I decided to buy Carquest Dexron VI.

So as I open the bottle, I notice an acrid smell. I smelled the Carquest Dexron and boy did it smell bad!

Before this, I've used AC Delco, Castrol, Supertech brands and they all had that same generic "sweet" smell.

If Carquest Dexron VI is licensed by GM and the specifications of Dexron VI is very tight, Why is the Carquest brand different? I also noticed it was pinker than AC Delco Dexron VI

It could be the Carquest ATF is blended by Valvoline, just a guess.

Some ATF's have a special amine as their friction modifier and can smell pretty strong, but if it has a GM license number it had to pass the Dex VI series of tests.

I have recently used Valvoline, Castrol, and Mag 1 Dex VI fluids. The Valvoline had an unpleasant odor, while the other 2 had very little odor at all.
