Just got under my newly purchased '23 GX460 to REALLY check things out. Bought from an individual with 24,500 miles. Looked pristine when I first inspected. I must say I just looked for oil, transmission fluid, gear oil, rust, etc. With only 24K I never even considered looking at the shocks. Well, last night I was changing my oil and noticed the right front shock was covered in black oily gunk on the body and the coil. CV boots are still intact. I am assuming I have a bad shock?

I know I have a 48 month/50K mile basic warranty. Are shocks covered under the basic warranty with only 24K?

Supposedly on some other models Toyota says some weepage into the coil seat is normal. If it flows out of the seat, it's too much.

I'll be curious to see if they try to tell you this is normal. Based on your description, it sounds excessive

I have this amount of seepage on my rear shock and folks on here, that know what they’re talking about, told me it’s normal per Toyota. Once the oil seepage gos all the way down is when Toyota will replace the strut/shock.

I would clean it up with brake cleaner and recheck it from wetness after a few miles. the shock probably has let go but just to rule out anything from outside.

LOL. Just talked with Lexus service mgr. It needs to show oil leaking down to the bottom. I wonder how many miles it will take?
I’ve never owned a car with a warranty my entire life
