Right now I have mobile 5k in my gm 4.3 v 6.

I have 4k on the oil and am starting to get nervous. Im thinking I can go too 5k. Driving is mixed by the way.

Im looking at all options. What is a good oil that can go 5k with confidence? Motorcraft, Pennzoil, Mobil 5k? ect.............

Please let me know

With proper conditions, almost all modern oils can go 5k+.
Proper conditions are in the realm of normal.

Winter short trips are the roughest on oil.
Moderate speed highway cruising in summer is the easiest.

I'm running convention oil (Q-state green, PYB, API SN grade) to 7000kms oci on my wifey's camry and also my fit.

am I worried about it? Nope.

Q.

If I'm going through hard times from a price and quality perspective alone, I'd probably go with Chevron since I can find it locally for $2.75 a quart as a normal everyday price.

Motorcraft Synthetic Blend is rated to go up to 7,500 miles in my Ford truck. I should think this would work well in your car (provided it is made in the viscosity that you need). Most places have the 5 quart bottle at a very good prices. You may want to look into this.

As already stated: you should be fine doing a 5k mile OCI of mixed driving with any modern oil.

+1 This is a good oil and FREE. I also agree with FX, MotorCraft is excellent and can go 7.5k+. Almost any API SN oil (all the majors) can go 5k no problem so just go with what is on sale. The Free G-Oil would be my choice.

In hard times, why not use synthetic oil and run it 12-15K miles? Wouldn't that save you more time and money than running mineral at 5K miles?

You can go 5k as long as you keep the dirt out of the oil. I look at the UOA section all the time. The oils are lasting just fine, but it's the silicon numbers that are causing all the wear; that and coolant. If you get coolant in your oil because of a gasket failure, the wear numbers will skyrocket.

was just at walmart last night, they still have 5qt jugs of PP 5w30 and 10w30 for $18.75, and Ultra 5w30 for $22.00. I would throw in some PP and extend out the drain a couple thousand miles

I'd look at Havoline 5W30 or try Amsoil 5W30 and go the extended drain route to save money. The Havoline can be found at Tractor Supply and Rural King in your area on sale for $2.29 or less.

nowadays a DIY is prob gonna AVG. about 15 bucks. I recommend supertech with an OCI of 3-4K miles, mobil super clean OCI 4-5K miles, PP 6K miles, or M1EP 10K miles. that is--if the engine is in good shape ie not consuming lots of oil or have major problem like coolant in it. i have used all of those without any problems in both my vehicles.

Wait, he has a 4.3 and he's worried?

Those engines will run darn near forever, even abused.

Use SM/SN rated oil will do fine for 5k.

Or try some of the suggestions above....

This link gives you the Mobil made Super Tech and may not be up to date and in many areas,Warren Performance makes the Super Tech.

I am using the Super Tech High Mileage at the moment. It is time for an oil change and I am thinking of using Super Tech again, may not be the HM but Super Tech.

Here is what I was given recently by Warren on the Super Tech dino:

This is the 10w30 but the boron etc. should be the same for 5w30.

Wipe soot off the dipstick. Dunk it back in the engine. Pull it out again and drop a couple of drops of oil onto a piece of white card stock or printer paper. Come back 2 hours later and check the light brown oil spot for discoloration.

You decide if the oil is clean enough to run another 1000 miles. Good luck!

First off, did you use Mobil Clean 5000, or did you use Mobil Super 5000?

Okay, let me see if I've got this straight.

You did an oil change around 4k miles ago with Mobil 5k.
And now as you are getting close to the 5k mile mark, you suddenly are worried about possibly getting to the 5k mile mark?

Remember, the bottle clearly says on it 5k miles, or 6 months, and that's the very warranty that Mobil gives you just by using their oil.

So, why are you worried again?

And if you are worried, why not just change your oil?

Just to help your peace of mind a bit, here's the link to Mobil's Warranty page:

http://www.mobil.us/USA-English-LCW/carengineoils_mobil-super-warranty.aspx

If you engine blows up an the 4,999 mile mark, you're covered.
