Oil Weight Question

Would it be ok do you think to leave it in for my trip then switch it out for a 10w-40 around 1k miles. Thinking the Motul 7100?
nothing special on that oil, I use it a couple of times and is just marketing.
a group III oil overpriced with nothing more.

Better oils IPONE Shogun (PAO 50% at least) , Motul 300V Factory Line (PAO 25% at least), Redline (I test 10W30 and 10W40, PAO at least 50%) , Motorex oils also good ones.

the suggestion guys refer here Mobil1 Racing 10W40 (unfortunately not available on Greece, only the 15W50 viscosity) is very optimal for the price.
 
I suggest also to change the AFR because some people refer that runs too lean of gas.

The piston in photo is with ECU remap and Penrite full synthetic.

So, the engine blew up because the stock ECU runs lean from the factory or because it was improperly remapped? In either case the oil brand doesn't matter.
I highly doubt the 1-st scenario.

one option that maybe cause the engine blow up should be bad air filter and extensive dirt comes in.
I see it many times with my eyes on WR450F/YZ450F here in Greece friends run.

Or the remapped ECU was wrong AFR
 
^^^This^^^ AFR was way lean, IMO. Piston in the pic looks melted or pre-ignition/detonation or all of the above. That isn't wear and tear from dirt getting in the engine, IMO. If anything, the engine runs rich when the air filter gets clogged.
 
So, the bikes' ECU don't run lean from factory. There are guys who mess up with their AFR and blow up their engines.
It's not dirty filters or debris, as already mentioned above.
The ECU from factory not only run too lean, actually need someone to slap HONDA on eye with hand… and rest companies.
Euro5/Euro5+ emissions and all that stuff only problems brings

10W40 for dirt (not for city driving) with HTHS 4.0+for me is the minimum, on water cooled engine.

from the other Honda suggest 10W30 on XR650L… if oil become 20W after some miles doesn’t matter, Honda add her cherry on top for the ecological benefits.
Need somehow to sell also engine parts for repairs.
 
I have a 2025 Honda CRF300L Rally. I just had my Suspension done and they changed the oil for me. It’s a big off-road shop and a Beta and Gas Gas Dealer. I only have about 340 miles on it as I’ve only done fairly short rides. Planning a longer trip that would take me over the 600 mile initial break in, so did it now. This model typically uses 10w-30. They put in Liqui Moly 10w-50 4T Synthetic. Is that going to cause a major issue or is that a good choice?

Im not a fan of 10w30 in a motorcycle engine

The heavy weights show less wear over time
 
20w50 Syn of multiple varieties does FINE starting when the garage has been 32 deg f overnight in Colorado. Sunny days bump into the '50s real quick but the bike is still cold.
 
I wouldn't care what Honda's OM said, I'd use a good 10w-40 full synthetic. Does the OM show any other recommended viscosity based on ambient temps?
 
When a motorcylcle OM doesn't show any kind of oil viscosity vs ambient temperature chart, then they are basically going down the CAFE rabbit hole and recommending the thinnest oil possible. It's still a recommendation and not a requirement. Is there a specific clear statement in the OM that says warranty will be denied if any other viscosity is used?

Well, CAFE does not apply to motorcycles but they do have emissions limits. Nevertheless your point about a grade being a recommendation and not some sort of requirement is valid.

I said they are going down the CAFE rabbit hole and recommending thinnest oil possible, not that they are required to abide by CAFE regulations, but it's rather self imposed.

emissions limits, 10W30 for Honda years in Europe
and the viscosity KV 40/100 on the low side of W30
on a CBR1000RR SP that serviced on the Honda dealer I go mine also
10W30 mineral they add (not even a better quality from the GN4 "Pro Honda they called it")

on race kit manual from the 1000RR SP they suggest a specific oil from Motul at 0W30

on 2010 CBR600RR HRC kit manual it on a bike we run on the past they suggest Honda G2 10W40 (it is not available on my country and that time we run a 10/40, on owners manual was the same specifications as the today’s 1000RR SP)
