I have a 2025 Honda CRF300L Rally. I just had my Suspension done and they changed the oil for me. It’s a big off-road shop and a Beta and Gas Gas Dealer. I only have about 340 miles on it as I’ve only done fairly short rides. Planning a longer trip that would take me over the 600 mile initial break in, so did it now. This model typically uses 10w-30. They put in Liqui Moly 10w-50 4T Synthetic. Is that going to cause a major issue or is that a good choice?

How hot does the oil get?

No issues. The thinner 30 gives a touch quicker throttle and touch better mpg that's all but if changed frequently which if should be it should still last a long time with a 30 unless it's being driven hard but for recreational zip around the bayou and empty retention ponds 30 is sufficient.

I will say 10W40 with an HTHS 4.2 at least if you run on dirt should be OK.

I suggest also to change the AFR because some people refer that runs too lean of gas

The piston in photo is with ECU remap and Penrite full synthetic.

Yeah it has an 8k OCI. I’ll probably change it every 2-3k or yearly depending on mileage I put on it.
Oil is cheap and these don't take much either. I'd see myself changing it every 1-2k or a year. Quicksilver full syn 4t is well regarded and walmart sells it directly online with free shipping for $35 and they have yama and kawa too. Amazon sells conventional kawa yama and honda 10w-30/40 for the same or little more and the full syn for $50 a gallon. bel ray and massimo make great oils too. I'd avoid triax they're known iffy.

The bike is liquid cooled so I would think if Honda is putting in 10w30 it"s likely fine , myself 10w40 .
How hot does the bike run ?
nice bike by the way !

Hondas are the AK47 of the powersports world. I would not use anything less than the manual calls for. 10w40 would be my ch\oice. I would do 1-2k oil changes depending\ on usag\e and severity..... or do a UOA and see for yourself.

My only concern would be, if the bike is still under warranty and problem comes up, they might say you were running the wrong grade oil in it. And that caused the problem , So the repair costs in now on you. If there's no warranty left on it, use what you want.,,

Warranty is up 9/6. Not too concerned, it’s a Honda!!

It won’t likely cause any damage but it might make your clutch feel “off.”

I don’t see much advantage to it frankly since 10w-50 is going to shear pretty quick to a lower grade anyway, and leave a bunch of chopped up viscosity modifiers behind.

Would it be ok do you think to leave it in for my trip then switch it out for a 10w-40 around 1k miles. Thinking the Motul 7100?

Yes,

Nothing wrong with running the 10w50. Yes it will naturally shear more than the 10w30, but in a shared sump the 10w30 is going to shear as well. The 10w-30 will be a 20wt after a couple thousand miles and the 10-50 will probably be a 30wt after a couple thousand miles.

I would run a 10w40 at the next oil change an each change there after. M1 10w40 Racing 4T from Walmart is going to be 1/2 the price of the motul 7100 and probably just as good if not better.
