I did a search and there is a lot of downplay on Duralube Engine Treatment. I've been using it for years in my cars. Is it really not worth it? I also use Restore. Is that not worth my money either?

As far as "Restore" goes, I used it in the past and it did help me get more miles out of my worn engines. I believe others have had similar results. Now that I know more about oils, I've learned that prevention goes a LONG way to exclude the use of "Restore".

I used Restore in a 1978 Chevy Van with a 350 V-8
(200,000 Miles) but due to the valve guides being worn it kept fouling the #8 spark plug. BTW
this engine had it's oil changed every 2,500 miles and used nothing but Castrol GTX

What has it done for you? I believe Duralube contains Chlorinated Paraffins which can break down and corrode your engine. Restore is a lot of soft metal particles in a can. Both seam harmful too me.

The real problem with this 'stuff' is that there is no evidence that any of it works. Just because someone uses it and says that it worked does not mean anything. If someone tested all this 'stuff' and wrote a book, I'd buy it, even if it was fifty bucks or more. Is someone out there that could do the research and write a book?

What has it done for me? I really have no idea. I just know that I have always used it and I have never had a problem with anything motor wise. I got my 1998 Honda Accord used with 34000 miles on it. I have used Duralube at every oil change. The car now has over 203,000 miles on it and I still never had a problem with the motor. I haven't used Restore at every oil change, but I have used it at most oil changes. No oil leaks. No oil burning. Still running strong.

What is Chlorinated Paraffins? I have noticed that this forum has lingo that I have never heard of.

imagine a complex wax molacule with bleach! I am grossly simplifying this. They are corsive extreme pressure agents. They never do you any good in an engine until the forces on the parts are so great that failure is eminate. So putting $20 dollars worth of colrinated wax in your engine is not going to help it. Is it safe to guess that your oil changes were 3000-5000 miles in length? I ask becuase most modern chlorinated parrifins can last about 3000 miles before they start getting really corrsive to the engines internals.

Just for future reference your money would be better spent on a good synthetic like Mobil 1. If you wanted to carry a little bottle of a chlorinated additive for emergency use that would be a better idea. This way lets say you are on the hwy and you start looseing oil pressure or see that you are leaking oil you can stop add it really quickly and get your moneys worth out of it with out hurting the engine.

I have often thought that an automated EP additive system would be nice to have on a car. This way when the head gasket blows or you loos oil or oil presure it could automaticly inject it.
