How would 4 OCI’s of say your favorite D1 Gen 3 rated or Euro rated synthetic oil + Rislone Engine Treatment added compare to 4 OCI’s of straight Valvoline Restore & Protect ? Rislone claims to do the same thing as Valvoline R&P even claiming to restore and protect on the bottle . *I don’t see a D1 / Gen 3 rating for Valvoline R&P (which may be a concern for GM vehicle owners) nor does Valvone R&P have Euro MB / VW oil approvals . *If Rislone added to the oil of your choice (works with all oils) over 4 OCI’s cleans as well as Valvoline R&P - then it may offer more flexibility for GM & Euro vehicle owners looking for safe , gradual , effective , engine cleaning from their oil of choice.

I would trust what Valvoline claims (and users have somewhat proven) long before I would trust what a snake oil peddler like Rislone claims

Rislone isn't worth using. The cheapest d1 g3 oil I can find is Quaker state fs 5w-30 but you can get much better Quaker state euro 5w-40 for one dollar more but you'll likely not find it in store but you can order it with free shipping.

I'm using qs 5w-40 instead of 0w-20 dexos in my 2021 with the 6.2 which is still under warranty. But restore and protect very likely cleans better than dexos and most off the shelf euro oils. Boutique oils are a different story.

So skip the risole and dexos oil. Either get something euro rated or just use the VRP on it's own.

No way of knowing without multiples of the same engine in the same condition and environment with which to experiment.

Decades ago I included an unopened can of Rislone in a countywide hazardous collection.
One of the attendants held it up and said to his mates, "Hey look, "RIZ-a-LUNE", and they all laughed.
I read the name that way to this day.

I’m not a fan of oil additives myself but some here swear by Rislone. A VOA reveled it was fully formulated and had TMP ester. At $6 for half a quart it seems better to just use R&P. I guess if all else fails give it a shot.

So hypothetically - if a GM vehicle owner just picks the correct weight Valvoline R&S the vehicle calls for then take solace it’s SP rated and drive on .

Depends on your comfort level. Personally I could care less about dexos certs or API for that matter. I use more stringent approvals. Others here are worried about warranty problems.

It’s currently fixing daughter’s high-performance Audi S3. Same with the Suzuki Swift Sport and my ‘Barra’ engined Falcon.
