Oil to quiet engine down?

My next change is Quaker State Ultimate Durability, but after that I was wondering: What would be a good oil to quiet down the motor some?

High moly and what else?

This thing is noisy...

50 wt. non detergent! HeHe! Really, some engines are just noiser than others. Just use the oil your engine is spec'd for. My Duratechs are very quite, but in the past I have heard other makes that were very clackly.

What engine? You want something with some ZDDP and moly to prevent the stick-slip phenom on the piston top deck turn around. Shell Rotella triple protect 10w30 is a quiet oil but may sap power. Havent tried the semi syn. Historically, adding M1R4T superbike racing oil to your substandard synthetic sump should quiet things up. Worked MANY times to avoid an early sump dump. 1 qt is usually enough and 1/2 qt in a 5w20 sump should work. No need to overdo it. Forget adding 15w40 - thats garbage in a PCMO sump.

Honestly, Quaker State Ultimate Durability is the only oil that I've used that ever made a noticeable drop in noise in the 4.7l V8 I had in my old Ram 1500, SynPower being the loudest. In the Charger and Sebring I never noticed much difference between oils.

i put in Pennzoil Conventional last oil change on my integra and it eliminate start up rattle, but it seems louder after warm up. i used maxlife 5w30 prior which is thicker after start up.

how about cotton buds as additive? or some foam?
seriously, oil might not be your problem if you are using oil spec'd for your engine and temp range. Check your oil filter and switch it another brand and see if that helps.

Castrol Edge was quieter in my Corvette than Mobil 1.

You just gotta try different oils.
We can't tell what is best from this distance.

But, thicker is usually quieter for a hot engine.

Shell Rotella T5 synblend.

Walmart carries the 10w30. Tractor Supply carries 10w40.

Oil with titanium should do the trick. I had to go from 5W20 to 5W30 to eliminate a tick in my Honda. Then I tried Mobil Super 5000 and I am back to 5W20 without the tick.

Your's is probably the cam phaser. Nothing will help that except a replacement.

I think there is a TSB that Ford said to use 10w40 Motorcraft to quiet those down. Any Ford guys out there with more info on this?

A friend recently had his replaced. His dealer said 40wt would make the phasers more noisey. Also the dealer said the noise would not shorten the engine life.

I would say his dealer is unaware of Oasis Special Service Message 21217.

Pennzoil conventional (yellow bottle).
If you insist on synthetic, Pennzoil Platinum or Ultra.

No seriously, Peak will quiet it down.

If you used the factory recommendation of 10W-40, it would certainly help.
