I've always noticed light vapors coming out of the oil cap if you open it recently after shutting off the car.
I assume most of the vapor is water, so when I let my car sit for a week or more I remove the oil cap until it cools down.
I can't help but wonder how much of what chemically depletes the oil's additive package happens while the car sits when NOT running, when the vapors eventually condense and join with nitrides to form acid.
Does removing the oil cap get a significant amount of water vapor out of the engine compared to not doing so?
