I've run Mobil 1 0w40 in both carb'd and EFI 302's.

Yes, that's the same engine, in two different cars, with two different intakes.

Yes, the 338,000Km engine has had 10K OCI's for the last 150+ thousand Km's

You told me my Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5W-40 (Cl-4/SL rated) was the Nectar of the Gods?

I DID run that in my Townie. But Mobil 1 0w40 in the other one. The Townie has higher mileage and isn't as high strung. However, both are excellent lubricants. If I indeed said that D1 is the nectar of the Gods, I must rescind that comment, as I believe that title currently belongs to Mobil 1 0w40

for now the intake is just a massively ported truck intake.. ported to match the heads.. and i mean he got WAY up into the ports..

and yes.. i know it's a 306.. but i still say 302 just to keep people from going [censored]??

i know how to build engines, no problem.. went away from myself this time around simply cause i dont have space.

this is the new engine while getting assembled...

Run two. 500 mile ocis and then switch to a sythetic and run 3k ocis for a while. When it gets to 10k or so you can extend the interval if you want.

A lot of people will tell you there is no need for a 500 mile dump because of plating and bla bla bla bla. But in my opinion, you should dump it soon to get rid of all the wear metals from break in.

Good luck and welcome to BITOG

i already did first oil change at 500 miles.. my next will be at 1500, then 3k, then 5k from there on out..

Na your both wrong. Chevron Supreme baby!!!! Lol

The truck lower can be swapped out for the Systemax lower if you didn't already know that.......... It flows a LOT better than the truck lower, which was the bottleneck in the truck intake setup.

I'm a BIG fan of the TFS-R on these engines. Pretty much a straight shot at the back of the intake valve. I've posted some vids for a combo very similar to yours if you care to search for them.

yeah i know.. im gonna keep the truck style upper cause the Throttle body... and the upper breathes VERY well.. the lower has always been the hold back.. but it's still not bad and about equal to a GT40 lower.. the upper for the truck is much better though.. + throttle body is much much bigger..

Agreed, the truck upper is fine. I'm just thinking if you could E-Bay a Systemax lower, it might benefit your combo

plan on it.. first thing is to get an adjustable fuel pressure regulator on it.. it's just slightly lean on top-end by reading the plugs.. but not very lean..

then will be shift kit and shift adjuster for the AOD behind it...

DONT WORRY.. the AOD was rebuilt and UPgraded a year ago and 5k miles ago... it's bullet proof.. only thing i didnt do was shift kit and shift adjuster to bring the shift point up higher..

What size of injectors are you running? Stock 19's? I had the Holley AFPR, was a good unit. Just keep in mind you might get surging with the increase in fuel pressure.

I had an '88 F-250 that I swapped a 302HO into and it ran well. When I went the modified route on the Townie, I converted it to MAF with an A9P from an '89 Mustang. Runs a C&L meter for 19's (it has milled E7's on it, Explorer intake, 65mm TB, Lightning spacer, 1.7's and an E-cam, nothing exotic, but stock injectors were 14lbs'ers, LOL!!). I've also done a 302HO swap into an '89 F-150 5spd, very similar setup to yours, as the truck was already a 302. In my HO swap in the F-250, the truck was a 300 I6 vehicle, so I just used the HO intake and did my own thing for cabling, brackets....etc.

I'm a BIG fan of these engines, having a number of them run well past 300,000Km without a hickup, still with awesome oil pressure and compression. They are probably my favourite engine. Easy to work on, and can make lots of power with the right parts
