Oil Recs for 1986 Jeep CJ7

This has the 4.2 6 cyl 258. Manual says 10/30 or 10/40. Use will be around town, some highway. Any preference on the weight of oil? Engine has 69K on it.
 
15w-40 ..5w-40 ..10w-30 ..heck, 20w-50 if you want.

This has the BBD carb setup, doesn't it? Nutter bypass?

BBD argh! Get a Motorcraft 2100(for cheap!). A guy I know with an '84 '7 has a Weber (32/36 I think) and it was idling at all sorts of angles during our recent trip to Moab.


As far as oil goes, 10W30, 10W40, or 15W40 would be fine. I typically run 5W30 winter and SAE30/10W40 in summer.
 
I've got a '78 CJ7 (one of the heavy duty CJ's).You can use any oil in the thing, but I have been using Rotella 15W/40 and Mobil 1 off and on - whatever's in the garage at the time.
 
daily driver or seasonal vehicle???

I'd say 10w40 Mystik...maybe 10w30 in cooler months...

what is your climate range?

My cousin lives in Portland and used to live in seattle and if I recall it is not extreme temps either way???
