I am not sure if your suburban is old enough to be affected by this issue, but take a close look at your brake lines (the metal ones that run along the frame). If they are rusted have them replaced. I have 2003 GMC Sierra that I bought a few years ago. I bought new ACDelco replacement lines from Amazon for about $70 and had an independent shop install them for about $250 or so. Hopefully your 2008 does need this yet, but wanted to pass this along since you will be towing on a long trip.

I didn't know Mobil1 High Mileage 10w30 had an HTHS = 3.5. That is quite a bit more than M1 HM 5w30's HTHS = 3.1.
So I'm changing my answer above where I said to use M1 HM 10w40. The M1 HM 10w30 has plenty of HTHS, since that Suburban, when new, had GM saying HTHS=3.0 is about right anyway. Older Suburban, towing, definitely HTHS=3.5 for high heat.

Thinking about it for a bit now. You have the 6.0 engine (bullet proof awesome engine). It's a 2500 with all the good coolers and stuff. You have kept up on maintenance. You are good to go! Pick any high quality 5w-30 10-30 oil ( I like the 10-30 oil for my trips) and have fun. Just take it easy on the uphill climbs to keep the trans temps down. You say the trailer weighs 8,600. How much does it weigh after loaded with water, food, clothes, toys, female stuff ect??

8620 was the actual loaded weight of the trailer during our last two-week vacation. I don't mess around with my family's safety. I weigh on every long trip. $10 is cheap insurance.

CAT scales is an RVer's friend.

Do not forget to inspect the heater hoses . If they are original , they may be getting to the age where it is prudent to replace ( preventive maintenance ) . You can loose a lot of coolant if one cracks & springs a leak . Not a high dollar part to replace .

Did you say you checked belts and windshield wiper blades ?

Fuel filters ?

Condition of the radiator ?

Does it have an external transmission / supplemental cooler ?

God bless

The truck actually looked like that when I bought it - dark blue, debadged, 5 or 10% limo tint all around. Buddy of mine works with the Secret Service, and he laughs because whenever the President comes into town, he has four or five trucks just like mine show up in his parking lot.

Thanks again!

Follow up...

First 1200 miles done. Typing this in Loveland, CO. Truck performing flawlessly. Towing in 4th gear, 65 mph, 3200ish RPM.

Why did GM kill these trucks? I own a unicorn.
