Oil recommendation for Pentastar V6 after valvetrain replacement

I think it's a metallurgy issue that isn't directly correlated to oil type.
This is 100% true. However the use of higher viscosity will markedly improve component life, likely to reasonable levels. It just won't fix the problem of plastic camshafts and roller followers made from Dark Chocolate. Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w30 is a fantastic oil, with an AN base. That AN means the relatively modest additive pack is more effective than other oils with the same add pack levels. You will find a wide array of opinions here on Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w30 including those who claim other oils are superior. In practice that's just not the case. The EP is a top tier oil and performs like one.

Pentastar rocker arm and subsequent cam/lobe damage has nothing to do with oil. What you do is budget rocker arm replacement every 100k miles and fix as soon as you hear noise so you don’t damage the cam. This is a 15 year old problem, every oil has been tried. Rule of thumb: Pentastar V6 valvertain typically fail around 100k miles and Hemi V8 valvetrain typically fail around 200k miles. If you want/own/love these engines plan accordingly.
Melling kits Ok ?

Hi guys,

Long time viewer few time poster, I live in suburbs outside Chicago. Daily driven 2019 Jeep grand Cherokee Laredo 88k on the clock. Mainly city/suburb occasional highway driving. I Bought it used with 40k mi in 2022.

Since owning the vehicle I consistently used Mobil 1 Extended Performance 0w20 and Mopar mo-349 oil filters for 5-8k OCI.

It fell to the dreaded “pentastar tick” recently had both intake cams, rockers, lifters, pcv valve, Vvl solenoids and lifters replaced in December. Total cost $2.5k by ordering mopar parts online rather than the stealership charging $12k for a new engine.

I’m currently running Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w30 and Mopar oil filter. Would 0w40 benefit in any way? Or, should I stick with 5w30 going forward?
Oil brand doesn’t matter just as long as you’re keeping a steady oil change interval. Maybe cutback on the oil change interval keep it around 5k 0W or 5W20 will do it.

My Jeep is 6 years old with several hundred miles off the pavement - zero issues - my Charger was 7 years old - zero issues - back to crickets …
Good for you.....heres a sticker👍.
Look around North America....many more did not have the same experience

Can you even find dino anymore?
Semi syn is the lowest I can find in my area...at it's only 10% of shelf stock. Rest is syn.

Stellantis released a TSB I think last year, about this problem, that affects the intake cams and followers of the PUG (Pentastar Upgrade) that addressed the wear problem. New parts also. The problem on these is different than the problem on the pre-PUG engines.

Yeah this old trope again. That sure sounds good, but we have a forum full of people with oil burning and other issues using high quality OTS synthetics. For many, it does matter. Glad it's worked out for you, but you can't extrapolate that experience to everyone's cars.

Listen I don’t lie but I may tell stories no one’s engines is ever going to tell what brand oil goes in and it sure won’t quit with proper maintenance and oil changes

You are either ignorantly uninformed or a troll.
Let’s keep the talk adult no need for name calling and far from uninformed. Anyone on here can talk their love and affection for any oil brand their heart desires. I can’t and won’t accept that a particular brand makes any difference in engine cleanliness and longevity relating to modern synthetic and synthetic blend oils that meet manufacturer requirements and specifications. Not following routine maintenance and oil change practices will fail a vehicle far sooner than reputable oil brands

Please read through the countless threads on here of people running OTS oils and still getting loaded oil control rings and oil varnish buildup.

I stand by my statement, you are trolling with the intent to be confrontational.

The mods can state otherwise if needed.

Yes the balls in their court. I walk away with no insult to my intelligence.

Again, please read the countless threads about how “proper spec” oils used for “manufacture recommended” intervals will still load up oil control rings with carbon and lead to varnishing and/or slugging. To blindly say that any high quality synthetic oil, changed at proper intervals will lead to a long happy engine life these days is not true.

Some recent threads for instance:
