1. 2004 Neon SRT-4 91,XXX miles 100whp over stock. (340whp)
2. "For best performance and maximum protection under all types of operating conditions, the manufacture only recommends engine oils that are API certified and meet the requirements of DaimlerChrysler Material Standard MS-6395. Use Mopar or an equivalent oil meeting the specification MS-6395."
The manufacturer recommends the use of Mobil 1 10W30 synthetic engine oil.

Then there is the temperature chart showing to use 10w-30 on hot months and 5w-30 in cold months.

3. Gardner, Kansas
4. I get on it once in a while. But I am not accelerating hard all the time. I baby it, but I do open it up since it is a performance car.
5. 16 miles each way mostly insterstate miles. But I do drive in town and make short trips once in a while too. But I try to get the car to operating temps before shutting it down.
6. Car has no known problems. Up to date on mainteneance.

I usually run 0w-40 Mobil 1. But there has been good deal on the Castrol Syntec so I have been running the 5w-30 past couple of oil changes of that. It is getting hot out and I think it would be a good idea to switch over to a 10w-30?

I got that OReilly's synthetic $18 deal, 5w-30. But I am hessitant on using it since I heard its not a good idea to run it in a turbo car. I still have the receipt for it. I don't mind changing my oil, so going extended intervals really doesn't matter.

So what do you guys think?

Id say Run shell rotella T6 synthetic 5-40. nice compromise between cost vs add pack vs cold pumpability vs high temp properties imho. otherwise GC or a nice redline or amsoil 5-40 if you dont mind spending the $$

First thing: For a car THIS heavily modified, FORGET what the manufacturer recommends - those recs. are for a stock motor!

Personally, with this highly-stressed a turbo engine I wouldn't use less than a synthetic 40-weight oil. The 0W-40 M1 is a good one; as is M1 TDT 5W-40, Rotella T6 5W-40...any 5W-40 HDEO would be a good choice.

Just my 2 cents......

If you're looking for an oil that you could run year around, then M1 0W-40 or the Castrol GC 0W-30 would work well. You are wise to use something a little stouter than the Oreiley's product.

Not many would argue with me if I told you that if you wanted the best oil for your app then you should use one of the Red Line oils.

M1 0w40
Castrol Syntec GC 0w30
M1 "High Mileage" 10w30/10w40
Redline 5w30/10w30/0w40

I personally look for the ACEA A3/B3 spec with an HT/HS higher than 3.4

Redline 5w30 and Mobil1 0w40 being my favs

Edit: I dont like the Amsoil SSO recommendation, only because SRT4 owners believe their motors will self grenade if they run oil longer than 3k miles. It wouldnt really be cost effective.

To me, a small turbo engine that stressed is a perfect candidate for a Redline product in an appropriate grade.

If you want to stick with over-the-counter, then I agree that RT6 would be a good choice. So would M1 TDT 5w40, M1 0w40 would be my third choice.

Its funny, not too long ago I was thinking that it had been quite a while since I'd seen a Neon SRT-4. Then driving home I wound up behind one (also with a Mopar Stage III badge, by the way) and now your topic here. They're cool little cars and for a time were the hottest Mopar you could buy short of a Viper.

This post makes little sense. Redline is recommended, SSO is not. Because of cost?

If it were my car I would wait until AutoZone has the Castrol Syntec sale with 5 qts. and a filter for 26.99....then buy German Castrol 0w-30 and run it year round. IMO it's one of the best, if not the best bang for the buck you could put in your engine.

You would have an oil in the 40 weight range at temps, but still have excellent cold pour and winter starting. Especially in Kansas winters.

Although, I do like Amsoil 0W-30 SSO and it would be more of an investment, but you may be able to cut your OCIs in half versus the GC.

I've got 10k on it in my turbo Solstice.
It hasn't grenaded yet, although it is a Pontiac. I can't vouch for a Dodge...

I guess your right, that didnt make any sense did it....

I have always looked at SSO as an extended drain oil, and looked at redline as an "more than one needs for an unmodified daily driver" oil.

Thanks for all the recommendations you guys. There was a period when I could get the Mobil 1 0w-40 at Autozone with a filter for a deal. But then they started doing the Castrol Syntec so I used that. But they only had it in 5w-30. The Mobil 1 is never on sale, and you can only get the 0w-40 by the quart at Autozone.

Here is a lab report of my car quite some time ago with the M1 0w-40:

Also... I am not good with the abbreviations

Amsoil SS0?
PP= Penzoil Platinum?
RT6?
M1 TDT
GC?

Some of them think that due to them having a turbo. Plus 85% of NSRT-4 owners drive the [censored] out of their cars.

M1 0-40 or M1 5-30 which is one of the few oils meeting the Honda HTO-06 high temp, low deposit spec. Also PP 5-30 meets the HTO-06 spec as well. Don't worry about the 5 W in the summer.

That's a very nice UOA on a 2.4, especially a turbo. Looks better than my wifes N/A 2.4 in the PT, although that's comparing a ~4000 mile drain on you 0w40 to a 7000 mile drain on M1 0w30AFE in my wife's car. My opinion of M1 0w40 went up a bit- maybe it would be closer to M1 TDT (turbo-diesel truck- an HDEO like Shell Rotella T6) than I thought.

Shell Rotella T6 Synthetic 5w-40 - 1 gallon for $19.99 at Advance Autoparts (Kragen you might have one of their other names). It is an extremely robust oil.

Buy 3 Jugs and a cheap funnel or something (To make $60) and order and pay online and use in store pickup. Use Coupon Code BIG25 (expires 6/20) and get $25 Off on $60. Basically 12 Qt for $34.97 ($2.91 Qt).

They also have a LS123 Coupon that is $10 off $30, $20 Off $50 or $30 off $100 which might be useful depending.

By placing two separate orders and using one of each coupon I just managed to score 6 gallons of M1 5W20 for $3.58 a Qt average.
