No kidding.

People need to stop calling other posts a "waste" and falsely accusing them.

Just ignore his messages then

Again, all inputs are welcome.

I don't see why the OP will need two oils so different for every part of the year. Even if he has two different ways of driving. Just because the outside temperature? The way he drives? One could make the case of using the 0W-40 in winter and the 0W-20 in summer because the 0W-40 will resist better the fuel dilution from the cold and short tripping.

In any case how many miles do you travel in winter and how many in the summer? I would vote for using the Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 year round, change it before the winter and make a used oil analysis in the summer to see if the winter conditions spent all the life of the oil or if it is possible to use it until the next winter

And I agree with Nick1994 in removing the cold air intake, those things are work of the devil.

Car is a Civic Si and is spec'd for 5W30. I see no reason why OP needs to deviate from that. It's not driven hard and is a daily driver. 0W30 for the winter would work well also.

Car needs nothing special.

In winter i usually go to college and shopping, they are all 5 kms away from where i live.

In summer, i usually go to downtown toronto regularly, around 20 kms away from home. Sometimes i go to US and race track and push it really hard.

Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 would be a good idea for all year round if i don't go to track days and the car revs up more than factory limit. However, i think it would be too thin for track races, and aggressive driving. That's why i considered ACEA A3/B3 oils such as M1 and GC 0W40.

ROYAL PURPLE... ALOT of folks on the Civic SI forums use it. I do and love it.
I use 0w20. Mine is a 2013.. Just use what your engine calls for.
You just won't and can't go wrong with RP. Ever

It's a Honda..I would use any synthetic 5w30 and a factory filter or an orange can Fram. Change every 5000 miles. The engine will outlast the rest of the car.

Do go back to the factory air cleaner.

I have used a few different 5W30's in my K20 and have never noticed any real difference. That being said, I would just stick with something like AFE 0W30 for winter and PP or Castrol EDGE 5W30 for summer. The engine is not that picky...

What do you guys think about 50/50 mix of Mobil 1 0W40 + Mobil 1 Extended Performance 0w20 blend for winter?

Its slightly lighter at than AFE 0W30 and pretty close to Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 at 40C(100F). Would it be a good option for winter?.

You really are not going to out-engineer the recommended oil. Not that mixing is bad (I do it but more for my beater because I get & mix whatever is on sale).

For a vehicle with 5w30, keep with it or a 0w30. You are not going to see any real benefit from mixing or going up/down in weight. Actually, the only real benefit would be fuel economy for a few frog-hairs but I do not think you are going with that concept. Even for Canadian winters xw30 is fine and because both xw20/xw40 will be "incorrect" at operating temps. The 2008's engine will outlast the car (and I recommend going back to the stock air-filter as well). If you want slightly better although might be statistically irrelevant oil, you can go boutique but even a moderate add-pack conventional will be fine in most cases if the interval is fine.

Because you are tweaking things, chances are that you will cause more damage than any oil can do (save those on watch lists for being outright lies).

Edit: Thanks for all suggestions, i really appreciated

One last stupid question,

I can get my hands on Castrol Edge 0w40 EU formula a lot cheaper than Mobil 1 0w40. But i don't trust the other non-EU Castrol products so i don't want to mix it with Edge 0w20. Their PDS are vague and they always change formulas.

Is it safe to mix Castrol 0w40 and Mobil 1 Extended Performance 0w20?

Yes, you can mix anything with API starburst. I hear that Castrol mixes with saltwater very well. That is why I don't use them, but yes, it is safe to use.

Hey i used Motul 300v 5w40 few years ago, it was EP3 Type-r though but still k series engine.

It is an excellent oil but it isn't worth to spend $20 per quart.
