Hey guys, this is my first post in BITOG. I've been a long time lurker. Let's start with your oil recommendations.

1. What kind of vehicle you have
2008 Honda Civic Si , 63000 miles

Mods: 3.5" cold air intake / 70mm throttle body / Hondata flashpro aftermarket ecu

2. What your owner's manual says -- not just viscosity, but certifications (look for acronyms like API SM, ILSAC GF-4, etc.) and change intervals as well

5w30, API SN. Interestingly, when i was in Europe, 5w40 is the most popular and recommended oil for K series. Since i have a flashpro and MAP tune, my MM doesn't work and that's why my OCI is 4000 miles. Will do UOA soon.

3. Where you live
Toronto

4. How you drive (easy? hard? fast? slow?)
Short tripper in winter, so driving very conservatively

5. What your daily drive is like (short trips? long trips? city? highway?)
Winter: Short trips, 6 miles per day.

Summer: Mostly highway, sometimes do long trips to buffalo or detroit, and rarely go to track days. Looking for a good ACEA A3/B3 alternative.

6. Whether your car has any known problems
No problems at all, no oil consumption. I used Belgian Castrol for summer, German Castrol for winter, but i won't use GC anymore because there is no 5l juq on the shelf and it is overpriced.

I was considering Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 for winter(since its the lightest 5w30 oil in the market) and Mobil 1 0w40/New German Castrol 0w40 for summer. Also i always use S2000 oil filter but considering to try Mahle OC 330 oil filter. Any thoughts?

Mobil 1 0w20 for 5k mile intervals. It isn't a racecar, and is 99% stock.

And put the stock air cleaner back on. You're doing your engine no favors by having the "cold air" noise maker intake on their except by bringing in more debris than what's necessary.

Mahle OC 330 is a good filter, you can also use Wix 51347 if there is room (it's about 1.5" longer than Honda S2000 PCX-004), currently I have Wix 51347 on my S2000.

If you change oil twice a year, fall and spring, then 0W20 for winter months and 0W40 for summer months.

I would go with PP in the Winter (just what I was thinking before I scrolled down to see you wrote it...) & Mobil 1 0w-40 mid-Spring through mid-Fall.

NAPA Gold/Wix makes great filters, or Mobil 1 Extended Performance as well.

Thanks guys for quick responses

By the way, i am not impressed by the efficiency rate of Mahle OC330, but it is $4 in here, 2.5x cheaper than PCX filter.

According to Mahle

Quote:
Mr Gunay, the bypass valve opens between 11-15PSI. Filtration is 70% at 20 micron and 85% at 25 microns

Reading any other responses will be a waste of your time.

Yea, I guess my answer was a waste of time.

It was. All you did was closely mimic what HTSS said, and he said it first, so yea, waste of time. Initially I didn't even read your post but I'm sure the OP appreciates your response. You'll be okay. Another recommendation thread will be started by someone else in a few minutes.

I appreciate your answers, god bless you guys!

Turk suggested me to use Pennzoil Platinum 5w30, so its not similar and no waste of time.

One minute or one second doesn't change the fact he said it first. I never said you are wrong or that your advice was bad. Don't worry, you'll have another chance by sundown.

Ok, so I FINALLY went back and read what HTSS said.

It was this:

So Oil Changer, read both & tell me the truth.

Did I "closely mimic" what he said???

Now, a question for everyone else. Read both statements. Did I "closely mimic" HTSS??

Give me truthful answers.

Because YOU are accusing me of something I DID NOT DO & HAD NO IDEA WHAT HE SAID!

I DID NOT MIMIC WHAT HE SAID!!! To mimic is to KNOW what he said. I did not know what he said, so how could I mimic??

I DIDN'T EVEN SEE HIS POST!!!

Sorry, you are wrong.

So, it's not important when someone falsely accuses you of essentially :

- Reading what someone else wrote.

- Thinking of how I could write something similar, but not look that way.

- Being a slow typer, being able to recompose it, write it and click "Submit".

ALL within 1 minute.

THAT is what Oil Changer accused me of.

I DID NOT see HTSS's post before I wrote mine!

It might be important, but on the other hand I don't really think it is. But if you think so (and clearly you do), then the delivery is just as important as the content.

Oil Changer is accusing me of something I did not, and could not, do!

I am not going to let people walk all over me.
