Well I took my 2021 Subaru Ascent into the dealer for a tire remount and balance, and I brought up my oil pan leak again. Last year they blew me off saying it was my Fumoto drain valve, which I knew was a lie since it was leaking above the valve at the pan block interface. So now I go next week for a whole pan reseal. 😡

One funny thing though I originally bought a filter before he came back with the diagnosis and I said I guess I really didn’t need to buy this since they’ll be changing the oil next week.. the service writer said no we don’t have to drain the oil I laughed and said go check with the tech…

Service writers one of the reasons you are paying $200 an hour for service. But the Fumoto valve gave them the excuse they needed. But couldn't you replace that pan seal for under $50 rather than probably over $200.

Ah it’s warranty work for my car but at $199 an hour for labor ouch I’d hate to do it out of pocket. I am frustrated since the car has only 50k miles on it, I expected more from Subaru or any automaker for that matter. This shouldn’t be a thing in 2024, apparently Subaru, and other manufacturers, are using a sealant instead of a real gasket which wasn’t applied properly at the factory.

on those engines its usually the "upper" oil pan seal which is RTV.. and not exactly what you envision when you think oil pan.

I always laugh when a car goes through the lube techs and they quote a pan reseal. A few times I asked why didn't they stop before doing any work and I get the deer in the headlights response everytime.

hopefully they dont use an adbrasive wheel to get the old seal matl off of the surfaces , and blast all that abrasive dust in the bottom end of motor like on a post that i read in the past
