I have a car that specs refill of 4.4 liters with filter. 4.732 liters is 5 qt. Would less than 1/3 liter overfill matter for most cars? Is the oil that close to the crank when running?
I resemble that remark...I have to assume the auto companies expect auto idiots.
Exactly what happens with my Mazda3. Takes 4.7 qts (with filter). Whole 5qt jug goes in. 0 issues. Bit over 1/4qt extra isn't going to hurt anything at all. Has received 5qts per change for 145k miles worth of 3k oil changes, so it would have made itself known by now if it were an issue. Some at home probably just dump in a 5 QT jug and call it a day.
Typically when you overfill the oil, it causes excessive hyperbolic pressure and the engine falls out of the car at 150K. Hopefully no one behind you hits itExactly what happens with my Mazda3. Guilty as charged. Most of the time, anyways...Some at home probably just dump in a 5 QT jug and call it a day.
My Mazda 3 and my Mazda CX-5 specify 4.6-4.8 quarts with filter. 5 quarts in and it will be a touch over half way between min/max holes. I typically just drive it and let it sit overnight. Check it in morning and add maybe .2-.3 o get it to the max hole.Exactly what happens with my Mazda3. Takes 4.7 qts (with filter). Whole 5qt jug goes in. 0 issues. 332mL isn't what I'd call massively overfilled. That's less than a can of soda. It's not like there's an additional gallon of oil in the sump. The problem with this thread is that folks are commenting as though this car is a little overfilled. It’s massively overfilled. Even if it is the case that there is no detriment to massive overfilling, fixing this situation is trivial.
Was that number mentioned here? My read on that dipstick is at least a quart over.332mL isn't what I'd call massively overfilled. That's less than a can of soda. It's not like there's an additional gallon of oil in the sump.

The first sentence in the first post specifies capacity. The dipstick picture is from another post. Was that number mentioned here? My read on that dipstick is at least a quart over.
