I have a 2009 Ford Focus. Ford recomends that I change my oil every 5,000-7,500 miles. I have been changing it every 5,000 miles. I live in Michigan and drive primarly on rural highways and freeways about 400 miles a week. I drive pretty calmly but I do get in it every once and a while. I was wondering if I should continue changing my oil at the dealer or if I should switch to full synthetic? If I should switch to full synthetic what oil would be the best and what intervals should I change it at? Ford recomends 5W-20.

I use M1 5-20EP in both Duratechs. Engines are smooth and quite and the OCI you are looking for is no problem.

I would go with AMSOIL 0W-20 Gr.IV synthetic and change every 6 months.

Friend just put that in his wife's 2010 Fusion at 3,000 miles and plans on once a year. She drives about 40 miles a day back and forth to work in da UP.

When you change the oil in your focus what else do you need to do i.e. grease fittings and such. What are the benefits to switching to a fully synthetic?

No grease fitting to lube

Extend Drain Intervals
Maximize Fuel Economy
Protect Against Wear
Reduce Oil Consumption and Emissions - Volatility (burn-off)
Excel in Extreme Temperatures

My son's 2010 Focus was just changed over to this same Amsoil 0W20, after break in mileage of 1,800 miles. (Bought a case of it from eBay for $4/qt). Since he does a lot of city driving, I told him his oil change intervals should be 8-10,000 miles (or 1 year).

But a better deal, right now is the Motorcraft 5W20 FULL Synthetic for $2.95/qt., that Advance Auto Parts has been discontinuing. That should be good for an EASY 7,500 miles in your case. I bought a case of it today for usage after the Amsoil 0W20 is gone. The store I was in also had a 5 gallon jug of Motorcraft 5W20 on clearance for $7.99. (I left it in the store, but kept looking back at it, as I drove away). You never hear anyone complain about Motorcraft 5W20 - since it was initially durability tested with Ford products in mind.
