The car wizard mentioned that they can't be babied. The engine was a derivative of the F1 V10 design that BMW was using.

This is ABSOLUTELY insufferable.
You bought the best performance car of its time, a derivative of the F1 engine, and complain about performance stuff. Get Prius! It is your kind of a car.

Why do you always need to think about the oil?

Pick a good oil, keep it topped up, and don't hammer the throttle until the oil is warm.

Hell, I always think about the oil in my non-M BMW lol. I check the level once a week or once every two weeks! Same with the coolant!

Anyway, I've used Redline 10w60 in my S85 powered, 6-speed manual, M6, for about 12 years. No issues, despite the expert read-testers on the Internet telling me it's a ticking time-bomb...

Ah yes, unsuspected customer of BMW M5 V10 who entered dealership to buy Camry, but ended up with M5.

I can understand. While the S85 shares almost* nothing with the F1 variants BMW did apply a lot of their experience from F1 when designing this PU. Unfortunately at the time F1 engines only had to last around 1k km and BMW didn't, or couldn't, engineer an oiling strategy which didn't eat the rod bearings turning them onto a "maintenance item". At least 10w60 is an easy choice. There's what like 3-4 options in that grade?

I'd love a V10 M5 but I can't stomach the "M tax". I can barely stomach owning a relatively modern 4-series.

*I think the bed plate comes from one of the first V10 race designs.
