oil info please

hey guys
I got a new old truck i need to know what oil you reccomend? here is the story

Its a 1953 f100 with a sbc 350 and a turbo 350 transmission, , dont know what the kotor came from, on a cold start up i show 50 psi ( new gauges ) and after a while i show about 25 driving about 2k rpm, , now at ared light it drops the gauge i use dont go that low i idel about 700 rpm i was told that chevy needs about 10 psi for every 1000rpm, i think i have that ,, is there a oil you reccomend for now until i rebuild, it may be a while until then.

I think Defy in the 5W30 flavor would fit the bill.

With it being of a 50's vintage maybe something like a 15w40 since it wouldn't hurt to have something with higher zinc.

its not a 50's motor the motor came from a 82 or so

Sure would. Or an hdeo in a 10w30 if winter wasn't a concern.

Yes and no.
The w in 5w means winter. A 5w30 is a grade,

Simplified, yes. And, you can use QS Defy 5w30 all year. As for the vintage of the engines, we operated early 1950s Chev sixes on the farm and 1980s vintage SBC as taxis, and both got the same 10w30 QS all the time. 5w30 wasn't quite as good as it is now (plus the farm truck didn't move in winter and taxis never turn off), and there was no Defy available.

maybe do a 5W 40 in summer and 5w30 in winter ??

To keep oil pressure up, probably a 10W-40 or 20w50 High Mileage oil or the 15w40 HDEO recommended above. That should keep it alive until you get around to the rebuild. Just let it warm up a little if you're driving it in the cold weather. It pays to be gentle with old stuff.

It sounds like the oil pressure is in an acceptable range.
You might try a 10W-40, which certainly won't hurt it.
I'm partial to Maxlife, either lime or cherry flavor, but any brand would be worth a try.
