oil grade recomendation

I have a 1998 f150 4.6 and a 1997 jeep grand cherokee.ford says 5w20 (5w30) and jeep 10w30.i would like to buy oil by the case and do both cars oil changes at the same time with the same oil grade, so should i run 10w30 in both?i know that the jeep likes heavy oils from what i read here in bitog.the big q/ is the ford 4.6 some people run 5w20(to thin for me) others 5w30 ,10w30 and even 5w40 as for the oil barand im thinkind on using pennziol or castrol conventional with 3 to 4k changes ..... any opinions please!!! tks by the way im in n.c. climate.

Since your Jeep needs at least a 10w30 and the Ford can also use 10w30 then I guess it's 10w30. Especially if you only want to buy 1 grade of oil

IMHO, the viscosity grades are blurred when comparing some 5w30 & 10w30 oils.

Based on your stated requirements, here are options that meeet the heavy 5w30 & light 10w30 category.

Tropartic 5w30, 65 cSt @ 40C, 10.7 cSt @ 100C
Motorcraft 5w30, 66 cSt @ 40C, 11.1 cSt @ 100C
Pennzoil 10w30, 67 cSt @ 40C, 10.5 cSt @ 100C

I'd go with the Castrol 10W30.

You've got one engine that likes 20 weight, and another engine that likes 40 weight. Why compromise? Use the best weight for each engine.

Do you see early morning temp's below zero F in the winter? If not, use 10w30 all year in both vehicles. If so, you could probably use 5w30 in the coldest months only and 10w30 the rest of the year.
