Would any oil weight/brand be more effective in protecting the engine from non use during the winter months[3-4 months] when the car is not started or driven ? Someone told me that some oil such as Amsoil has an additive that will protect better during storage. How about GC ?

I believe that Amsoil sells a marine oil which is supposed to be very good for long term storage, since most marine engines do spend a lot of time without being started.
Castrol Start-up might be another candidate and it is available in the more widely used 5w30 & 10w30 viscosities.
The ester cling would be helpful to keep a protective film on the cylinder walls & valve train components during a storage period of several months.

A 10w30 CI-4 'diesel' oil seems like a good choice, for storage as well as regular use. It's not a common oil as 15w40 is typical for diesels, but Ford has Motorcraft 10w30 CI-4 for $2.60 a quart. Chevy/GM might offer a similar weight and rating for their diesels. A bit pricey for regular use but it seems like a good price for special use.
Another choce would be 'regular' 10w30 oil with Mobil 1 Truck and SUV, which is a CI-4 5W-40 synthetic. I use 2 qts of Mobil 1 T&S with 3 qts of regular Mobil 10w30 in both Taurus sedans, and am looking around for some more 10w30 CI-4 oils. Delvac would be perfect.

I have been using chevron DELO 15w40 in all my 4.6 v8 ford motors that get stored six months out of the year. It is high in additives and works great for storage.
