I have a 1990 Dodge Shelby Daytona 2.2L VNT turbo with 135K miles.
Just wondering what kind of oil I should run in it Ill prob. use Wix or K&N oil filters

crazycrak,

Any synthetic oil of the right recommended weight should suffice. I'd check your manuel for Dodge's specs although I'll bet it's most likely a 10W-30 version.

As far as the oil filters are concern I can't say anything about Wix or K & N cuz I never tried them. I'm betting there too that a good brand will suffice. Personally I just use OEM filters on my car/truck.

On the early turbo cars they had specific instructions on trubo cooling to prevent cokeing/cooking of the oil when your shut down the engine. Remember to idle the engine to allow cool oil to circulate in the turbo otherwise your just fry that oil inside the bearings.

That's what little I know of.

I would use a HDEO dino. I bought a 91 Dodge spirit RT turbo new and had nothing but problems with seal and gaskets leaking. I had lots of warranty work done for oil leaks. I only ran synthetic in this car.

very cool car - I always wanted one!! I'd run a PAO or Ester-based oil like Mobil 1 EP, Amsoil (anything but the XL line) or Royal Purple. I've seen them torn down after 100k and the ones running synth always were alot cleaner with alot less wear. I'd go 10w-30

oh, I might add that I frequently had rear main seal leaks with Amsoil in that era Dodge/Jeep and would switch to M1 if the Amsoil leaked.

i have a stealth twin turbo and a mitsu vr4 both are twin turbo. i run redline 10-30 with a k&n or mobil1 filter, i am thinking i would like to try the new royal purple oil filter. a lot of the guys on 3si website are using rotella syn. as said idle the engine before turning the engine off

Why would M1 leak less?

It must have something to do with the seal swell agents that are different between Amsoil and other oils. Amsoil denies it as a possibility, but I saw it with 3 different dodge/jeep cars/trucks. My 98 Ram 318 was only 5k miles old when I switched to amsoil. rear main seal started leaking. switched to M1 - no leak. just to verify, I switched back and forth again. same story on a dodge 2.2L. same on a 95 Jeep Cherokee with the 4.0L. actually had the dealer replace the rear main seal (under 10k miles) and no problem after that. I have had no problems with anything newer. (mostly LH's)

crazycrak,

I've know people to allow the engines idle for anywhere from a minute all the way to two minutes.

Now if your driving easy perhaps you may not need to do it BUT if you just came from doing some hard speedy type of highway driving you know that turbines hot!

Since your using a synthetic oil it's ability to absorb hugh amounts of heat will help you also.

Perhaps there another section that can give you better advice than I could but I'm sure you can start at about a minute and go from their.
