Oil for Pilot

Well, you can all tell me to say goodbye to our 2012 Honda Pilot. Last weekend I changed the oil to Mobil 1 10w30 from the recommended 0w-20 (also Mobil 1).

Amazingly, when I started the engine after filling it with oil, it ran. Sunday I hooked the boat up and we went down to Lake Mohave for the day. The difference in the noise level on Highway 68 was amazing. I doubt very much I will ever run 0w-20 oil in the Pilot again. I will probably go with Mobil 1 5w30 for the winter. That worked fine in our 2004 Odyssey for eight years in spite of Honda's 5w-20 recommendation.

5w30 in the Arizona winter.....is there a winter in AZ?

Arizona is not all represented by Phoenix, Tucson and Yuma. Winters are fairly mild here, but is freezes most nights in December and January. Flagstaff, the Grand Canyon Rim and the Strip get really cold. The north rim of the canyon is closed half of the year because of snow.

+1 for the Arizona heat and towing.

It will be just fine. I have Quaker State Ultimate Durability 5w30 in our Acura MDX (with a very similar engine) right now and it runs great.

That's a scientific assessment for you.

And what advantage to you do you feel you're getting running the HTHSV 3.0cP Mobil 1 10w30 over Mobil 1 5w30 with a HTHSV of 3.1cP?

LOL, Isn't that what will happen since I am not following the specs of Honda's crew of expert engineers?

As for the next reply below your's, I switched from 0w-20 to 10w30, not from 5w30. I am NOT going back to the kerosene weight oil Honda recommends, I will use the proven 5w30 oil for winters. I am sorry (not) you don't like my "scientific" analysis. I knew there would be someone highly offended by my actions.
