Oil for NY Winter

The heated steering wheels are a nice thing as you get older. The one in my father-in-laws Renegade gets hot quick. Wife's Pilot doesn't have it, I was going to add it but reviews from forums were pretty lackluster on how warm, how slow, and how long before it shuts off. Rest of my cars are too base model. Heck I'd be happy with just a leather upgrade on my Accord.

Clarkson U. from '87-'91. Only time in my life I ever broke multiple ice scrapers trying to get into the vehicle and that was with Rain-X and good wax coats always kept fresh.
No way! Same years I was there. I had to crawl in from the hatchback after one ice storm, because there was no way of getting to the doors.

The ice storms were the worst. No cheap plastic scrapers for those. I had a chunk of fairly thick plexiglass that I would use to chisel the ice off so I could open a door. I wish synthetic oil was a thing in the mid 70s. We are spoiled by all the choices today. I would have loved some Supertech synthetic then, let alone a Pennzoil or better. When I started using synthetics I really appreciated the ease of startup in the cold.
During the cold spells I often thought I was crazy to have chosen Potsdam. Although you Clarkson guys had it worse I think, weren't some of your classes a bit of a hike? Potsdam campus was pretty compact and you could cut through a lot of buildings for the most part.

After the 1st semester, nearly all the classes were downtown. 20-30 minute walk. I remember passing a bank thermometer showing -30 and wishing I wore gloves and a hat that day... Even when I finally got a car, parking was awful downtown. Practically walked just as far. Everything at Clarkson is up on the hill now. There's even a Super Walmart nearby if they need stuff. The only store I remember was an old Ames on the other end of town when I was there.

Oil wasn't a problem with my car. Always started on those sub-zero days. Wasn't a good car, but got me through it.
