I need to change oil in my car within the next 1000 miles. It is a 2009 Pontiac G8 GT 6.0 L76. For those who aren't familiar, it is a Gen IV LS2 bottom end with LS3 heads. Car is driven 100 miles ish a week. But does occasionally see 500+ miles trips. Run hard (6000+rpm) when the weather permits. Factory spec is 5w30.

What would you guys suggest? Trying to stay under $100 for 9qts. Catalytic converters will be removed soon so zinc isn't an issue.

Even Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w30 is $56 for 10 quarts at Wal-Mart.

I have a modified LS1. Heads, Cam...yada yada.

It is the trash pit for whatever oil I have laying around.

Usually it has Mobil 1 10w30.

I'd say any off-the-shelf synthetic 5w30. The LS motors are not particularly hard on oil.

If it's on track, the 5w30 will probably still work. M1 0w40 or a shorter interval is worth considering if you are really pushing it hard on a regular basis (i.e. tracking it weekly).

I'm running CAM2 dexos1 5w30 in my G8 GT

There is 100% ZERO reason to go for a "high zinc" oil in an LSx engine. None. There are no sliding lifter/cam contact points. No helical gear drive for the oil pump. NOTHING that requires a mega-dose of ZDDP, no matter how hard you run it short of circle-track racing.

I'd use Mobil 1 5w30, M1 5w30EP, or Pennzoil Ultra 5w30 if it were mine. If you really punish it in high temps, M1 0w40 is about the best oil on the planet for the buck, and PU 0w40 (if you can find it...) is OK as well. 0w40 is factory spec for Chrysler SRT engines, which are architecturally VERY similar to the GM LSx series. NONE of these engines qualify as being hard on oil or demanding of oil specs. They're VERY forgiving.

Dexos QSUD 5w30 in my lS1. as said above any 5w30 meeting GM4718m and/or the Dexos spec is more than adequate. QSUD will cost you $43 for 10qts at walmart and a P1 or ACdelco oil filter will cost you $6. you should be able to change the oil in that car for $50 at everyday prices.

Use the OLM and change it at 15% that should net you at least 5k miles per OCI.
