Hello,

2012 BMW G650GS and I've had the initial 750 mile check with oil change per BMW service guide lines . The next schedule service is at 6000 miles which is really surprising to me, I would like to switch to at least a partial synthetic oil before then however the manual recommends that synthetic not be added until you reach 6000 miles.

I'm currently at 1584 miles on the odometer, the transmission is super notchy and I'm hoping some synthetic oil would improve it however I don't want to blow out my clutch.

Any recommendations? BMW recommends Castrol in the riders manual, I've looked up Castrol Actevo X-tra and although I have no idea if I can get it local it's a partial synthetic, so I'm thinking that maybe a safe pick.

I also want to stay with a JASO MA certified oil since I have a factory warranty for the next few years.

What do you guys think, any recommendations?

Yeah Triumph recommends 6k oil change intervals also. I change ever 2k though because I haven't found an oil yet that stands up in my shared sump and continues to give decent shift quality.

I was not happy with the Castrol 10w50 factory fill at all. BMW is recommending it because I am sure Castrol paid them too, just like how Triumph switches from recommending Mobil to Castrol last year.BP probably paid a handsome sum to get that. My Triumph even came with a stick on the engine saying "Lubricated by castrol"
