Changing the oil on my BMW F750 GS some time this weekend, and I'll be using Castrol Power1 4T 5W-40 Full Synthetic Motorcycle Oil which has the JASO MA-2 certification

Once I use up what I have with this change, I will need to buy more. Keep buying this oil?

Don't see why not if you like it enough to keep buying it. I'm looking it up and a quart bottle goes for 15+ bucks. Autozone sells a slightly different castrol power rs 5w-40 for 11 bucks though I find both to be a bit much for what they are.

Any jaso ma 2 rated 40 grade will do and probably a 50 grade in a hot summer interval. A gallon jug of rotella 5w-40 that's jaso ma/ma2 is 26 bucks and t4 15w-40 is 16 bucks but I can see myself springing for the better one in such a nice bike.

There was a post about 3 years ago on here that said Rotella t-6 , never had that JASO approval. The only way to tell is to look at a current bottle for the approval symbol. And pretty much any oil your thinking about using. Alot of oils will say " Meets or exceeds" the spec. But give the bottle a look, at least for when your bike is still under warranty.,,

Latest jug of Rotella T6 5w40 does show JASO MS/MA2..

I'll have to do some more reading, I did already order a gallon of it though

Would it work alright in my 1800RPM Natural Gas Genset, or mower, if nothing else?

If you want to know whether an oil is JASO T903 (that's the MA and MB spec) approved, you have to check with JASO. The bottle doesn't mean much, apparently--

Rotella isn't on the list, and one shouldn't expect it to be. JASO T903 requires an API gasoline rating, and Rotella T is not gasoline rated (hasn't been for some years now). Maybe that's all that's missing. Or, maybe Rotella doesn't meet other aspects of JASO T903. They don't say.

One can probably be confident that it meets the frictional characteristics required by JASO MA2, but that's all I think one should be very confident about.

I've used T6 in shared-sump bikes a little over the years. So have LOTS of motorcyclists I know. I don't find its performance very great over time; shift performance degrades more quickly in my bikes than other fluids I use. Some are very satisfied with it.

If that Castrol is working for you, keep using it.

The comparable BMW oil that BMW recommends is ridiculously expensive...

I'm not familiar with Bavaria being an oil producing region. They're most likely buying it from someone else and slapping their premium label (and price) on it.

I agreed with the others that you don't need to use a 5w oil.

What are others using in that motor on the BMW forums?

It's safe to ignore the purists who insist on using BMW branded oils. A decent 10w40 should work too.

I use several flavors of Rotella in my bikes. The T4 15w40 in my Japanese V-Twins and the T5 10w30 in my CB1100 inline 5 (spec'd for 10w30).

I tried the T6 15w40 in one of the V-Twins and it didn't like it.

If I owned that bike, I'd be tempted to try the Rotella T6 5w40. If you don't like it, it's cheap enough that you can dump it at the first sign of trouble and go back to your Castrol 4T.

Let us know what you find out!

did wach it, it was a old mobil oil vs a new one. Didn't see Rotella in it. But anyway, i wouldn't use Rotella or any HDEO oil in a mc, especially in my super bike
No sir. It also was Rotella how failed the foaming test. Read through theses Threads:

Search the forum for "Rotella Foam Foaming" and you will get a lot of results. Also, the Postings of the user RDY4WAR are worth reading.

@ supreme possum: You have a choice of high quality Mobil 1, Amsoil, Red Line, Castrol Motorcycle etc. oils. Simply pick one of these?

As a side note, it is remarkable how often this (Mediocre?) Truck Diesel oil is recommended for use in Motorcycles here on Bitog. In Contrast, everybody says you never should uese a high quality Motorcycle oil in a car with a gasoline engine, because "it lacks the friction modifiers..."

Weird!

Right. I never understood going cheap with motorcycle oil. The above mentioned brands are great choices. If you want to spend a bit more, HPL makes a ATV/MC specific oil, wet clutch friendly, for your needs. It does not appear on their website so you have to contact them through their website. www.advlubrication.com. Yes, I am a HPL fan!
