Oil for high horsepower Mitsu Evolution

I would recommend Motul 300V 15W50. (Or Redline is also a good choice.) If you race your car on a track, you may want to change the oil before or after every track event. Therefore, if you race your car often, you may end up changing the oil every 1000 miles.

I suspect that motor is going to be running a tad rich, so I would go with Motul 300V 15w-50 or if you change it quite often, the 10w-40.

AFR's at WOT range from 11.0-11.5

I agree with TurboDriven. From what i've seen, most modified turbo motors tend to run a little rich. Even with all the bells and whistles like wideband o2's and a/f computers.

What posses you to assume that?

lol i wondered the same thing. The car at WOt is between 11.0-11.5, at idle its around 14.7 and when driving around normal its any where from 12.5 to 16.5. So i wouldnt really say the car runs rich at all.

Maybe from the factory (stock tune) they run a little rich...actually, now that I think about it, they run a LOT rich; like, dipping into the ~9's rich.

This guy obviously has a better tune though and his AF readings have proven that...

Have you had any UOA's done since your build? most built motors I have seen have higher than stock fuel dilution, probably due to the use of forged Al pistons. As such, I would say a good Ester based or HDMO oil is in order to handle the fuel better and keep a higher HTHS score. Motul 300V and Redline are obvioius choices, but for what it's worth, Turbonetics rebadges a HDMO oil and it has the best UOA's I've seen in a TT VQ engine. Delvac1 and Rotella T-Syn have also done well. Worth checking out for your 4G63.

Yes bone stock theses cars run pig rich. The car has a AEM standalone in it now tho. I drove all the way from NY to OH to have the 4g63 master himself Dave Buschur tune the car.

Ive never looked into the turbonetics oil just cause there turbos are so bad. So its really supposed to be good tho?

just bumping an old thread instead of creating a new one.

I have a similar engine to the OP, except i have slightly bigger bearing clearences (2thou. Power wise its around 500whp on pump on 25psi+ and revving to 9000rpm. Just wondering if i should use a 10w 40 or 15w 50? Would i benefit from using a race oil at all?

The car has a external oil cooler, bearing clearance are the same as factory. The turbo is oil and water cooled so theres really no reason to let the car cool off before shutting it off.

You want to let the turbo cool off. If you are out driving with boost, lots of heat from that turbo and its still spinning quite fast.. Rule of thumb with any turbo, is to let it sit for at least 30 seconds after spirited driving.

As for what oil. I think redline or Motul 300v would be suited for you, especially for your short oil change interval.

anyone else got something to add?

I work at a Mitsi dealer - we use the Mitsubishi MSL in EVO's....no warranty problems if we use their oil. There is nothing on the bottle about the oil,not even a viscosity rating.MSL is Mitsubishi Synthisised Lubricant...and the blurb talks about using hydrocracked technology, which fits in with it being sourced from BP.We are in WRC country and there seem to be plenty of EVO's around, and we don't have engine problems.
