Hello, what brand and grade oil would you recommend if I WOT and redline the car at least once a day with 10+ mile trips? I would also like to do extended OCIs. I do warm my car up properly and do not idle too long. What would be my biggest concern and what oil would you recommend for extended OCI? I'm going to do Auto-Rx before switching. Oh, it's a Toyota 2.2L 5SFE with 100k miles. I wish to settle on an oil first and then use used oil analysis to see how long I can push the OCI. thanks!

okay, I got you.

I'll rephrase the question to "what kind of oil for hard driving?" and what do you recommend as a starting OCI? Also what kind of filter?
thanks!

PhillipsConoco brand semi-synthetics would do well as a starting point. Also, The GTX seems to to well with a little abuse, although I am not convinced that GTX is optimum for cold start abuse. Also havoline would have to be on the list. Try these and UOA for best interval. If they don't fit the bill then proceed to some of the more expensive options... Perhaps PP, M1 which are readily available at local stores.

As an aside, and with all due respect, would you consider at least a 15 second warm up and not jamming on the gas for at least a mile? This could really improve the longevity of your engine. Even and engine as tough as the Toy is.

It's a 93. warranty is long gone.

Thanks for the request. You might have read my first post wrong.

I usually start backing the car out of my garage 3 seconds starting up, then I drive out the residential street at 15 mph, slowly increasing to 35 mph. By the time I reach the main road, my temp gauge is up to normal, even then I try to take it easy for couple miles before any kind of hammering.

Do you think I should let the car idle for 15 seconds before backing out the garage?

Just to put things into perspective, no matter how hard you think you can drive your car on the street, it's still a small fraction of the time the engine is running that it's seeing severe service.

Towing up mountains, track racing, marine use, is really severe service.

For hard street use with a stock engine, there's no need to stray too far from OEM recommendations. Use the severe service maintenance schedule. Synthetics will give you better high temp tolerance (install a oil temp gauge to see if there's an issue) and possibly extended OCI capability.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I know there are a lot of good oils out there. I *think* I'm going to try a synthetic (Maxlife) for a 6k mile OCI and do used oil analysis to see how it holds up. I do like the idea of not having to do oil changes every 2500 miles (severe service interval).
