Just got a new CSX a week ago. Same engine as the Civic Si.

From what I read, the factory fill is a "break in" oil which is high in moly.

Honda recommend sticking with it for 5k miles.

However, I would like to change the oil filter sooner than that.
Due to concern of metal shavings ... etc.

So, recommendation for a oil high in moly for top up after I replace the oil filter ? ( I read somewhere Valvoline Maxlife is high in moly ...)

Also, any recommendation for what to use afterward ? (PP ?)

Thanks in advance.

Hi, I found Mobil 1 to be excellent in my RSX engine. I'm not using it right now, I dont drive the car enough to get my moneys worth out of the synthetic. In the older acura motors I didnt find mobil 1 to be overly quiet, but it seems to love the new K series.

Right now I'm using valvoline conventional, and was thinking about going to valv, maxlife for winter, but I might stay right where I am. The idle is VERY smooth, and the engine runs nicely on it. I heard a rumour that havoline was acuras factory fill (not sure if it was true) but you could run that for another OCI, and then switch if you chose to.

I wouldn't be concerned with having the most moly.
There are many ways to 'skin a cat', nowadays.
Benefits can be arrived by other means and additive packs, and many do this. It's not inferior, just a different chemistry.

I am like you - that first 5,000 mile recommendation seems too long. I just couldn't do it. It is probably perfectly safe, but I only get one chance at a first oil change.

There is a Virgin Oil Analysis [VOA] section in this forum, and it gives a break down of what is in new oil.
There is no one clear winner - there are many great oils now.
