Hey guys. I just traded my Yamaha for a 91 Goldwing that has approx 41,900 miles on it. The previous owner said that he used Shell Rotella T 15w40 in it and changed it every 3k miles.
The bike runs great but needs an oil change. Should I stay with what he used? I would really love to run a synthetic in it like I do my atvs.

What do you recommend?

If it were mine I'd stick with Rotella T 15w40. But then, I'm a big fan of that oil!

If you want to go to a synthetic Amsoil AME 15w40 is appropriate for a considerably longer change interval, IMHO. You will like the way it shifts, too!

Cheers!

Many GoldWing owners use Rotella(either flavor).
SuperTech filters (6607 or 7317)are popular too!
5000 miles is a common change interval as well, easy to remember. Some go to the 8000 miles that Honda suggests.

Stick with what works. At what temp do you quit riding?

As a rule, I ride my bike in the winter about every 2 weeks for about a 20 mile round trip just to keep from having to winterize it.
I don't let cold weather stop me from riding.

Thanks for the replies. I just may stick with the Rotella!

Rotella is a favorite of Gold Wing owners. The 15w40 will do nicely for your application. If you MUST have a synthetic, may I recommend a 5W-40 Rotella in the blue jug?

Both of these oils turn in excellent numbers in the oil analysis reports.

If you're into a lot of riding in cooler weather or if you want longer oil change intervals, then maybe the Rotella 5W-40 would be better for you.

You cannot go wrong with either one.

Here's mine. A little newer than yours, not that it makes any difference on the oil.

Nice Wing! I see in the other threads that you have a dark cherry FJR and a black cherry H-D ...

o I envy you your stable
o You have good taste in rides
o You really seem to like the dark red look :-)

I run the new Rotella T 15w40 Triple Protection in mine.

My Wing is midnight blue ... all the dealer had in stock at the moment, and I was too impatient to wait. :-)

Thank-you Mr. TusconDon.

We were in the same boat. This particular Wing was the only one on the floor and the last 2007 model they had. Picked it up brand-new in May and just turned 14,000 miles.

And yes, we both still go to work every day. And no, I don't ride it to work.

Nice looking bike!

I plan to stick with the same oil as the previous owner used...the Rotella 15-40.

Thanks again for the replies!
